Italian police car is Lamborghini
If you are thinking about speeding on Italian highways this year, think twice. You might find yourself being chased by a Lamborghini.
Italian police took possession on Friday of a sleek, 500 horsepower, two-seater Lamborghini Gallardo, which can hit a top speed of 185 mph.
The sports car, painted in the police's distinctive blue and white colours, comes complete with a flashing blue light on the roof and will initially patrol the Salerno-Reggio Calabria motorway -- a road notorious in Italy for wild driving.
The Lamborghini will also be used to transport human organs for emergency operations.

And what would the cops do when they catch the guy doing 185mph? Stare him down and hope he pulls over?
They are addressing the wrong problems and trying to solve them with hypocrisy. How is a cop speeding to catch a speeding driver right? These vehicles should never be able to attain these speeds in the first place. Doesn't anyone else think it's odd that 99% of production vehicles are able to exceed the highest speed limit in the country without much effort? If 110km/h is the fastest we are ever supposed to go, then why have I never seen a speedo with the highest number being 110? The lowest I have seen is 140 in my '89 Chev Silverado.
Yes I may be beating a dead horse, but this seems like a blatant cooperative effort between police, government and insurance agencies to cause more speeding for the purpose of revenue.

Matt, thats the gayest thing you've ever posted. I was under the impression you were a car enthusiast.
Yeah, let's all buy Vespas that can barely do the speed limit.;) |

whats the point in having a truck that can tow 10000 lbs?
or a minivan that seats 8 cause none of us have friends right?
oh, or what about selling a drink thats more than a single serving?
who actually does the speed limit ALL the time? cops sure dont, nor do 99% of the rest of the populace.
speedometers just sell cars, after all, if your on the racetrack and doing 180kph are you really gonna be sitting there staring at your speedo? |

did they get a discount to buy it?
pretty expensive cruiser if they ever get in an accident with it or have to stop a driver with excessive force |

Oh I am an enthusiast, but you've gotta see my point?
I suppose I'm a bit of a hypocrite seeing as I have exceeded the maximum speed limit many times, but I can't be the only one that sees the correlation between these things, can I?

That's funny, I guess that when the swat team shoots a wild gunman they are also trying to solve the problem with hypocrisy. How can a cop shoot a murdering gunman, that can't be right? :dunno: So what you are saying is that the police should not break any laws in order to catch a criminal. If there is a guy speeding, they should just let him go because they are setting bad examples, if somebody's attacking them, they should not use any physical force back, because then they would be hypocrites.
For as long as I can remember, the badge meant that you were given special priveleges to break some laws in order to stop criminals.
On the other hand, i can see the conspiracy theory, because honestly, if the government, the police, the insurance companies wanted safe driving environments then there would be a legislation that would force car manufacturers to make cars with speedos that follow the limits. |

| Oh I'm not talking about the whole law breaking issue, but having a different way to solve the problem that didn't put more people's lives in jeopardy. Maybe some sort of disabling system installed on every brand new vehicle?:dunno: |

Well, you might have a good reason to need your car to do 180kph, like your wife is bleeding to death on the passenger seat, and if you get her to the hospital at the speed limit, she'll be dead.
I'm not sure how valid is the questioning about why make cars that can go over the speed limit... it's the same thing as asking why some companies build guns like the Uzi. What's the purpose of such a gun? Moose hunting?

People will take it out, and then when they get caught for speeding they can say "but my car cant break the speed limit"
I dunno, in theory it works, but, in reality we all know it wouldnt last.
P.S. you could still speed on every other road that isnt a highway
even if you can only go 110
