Suggestions for rim sizes - Click HERE for Original Thread

REFLUX
I'm looking into a set of rims but I'm not sure what size I should go with.
This isn't meant to be showy but something for me to appreciate, so larger wheel diameters aren't on the list (i.e. 18").

Right now I have 16x7 & 205/55 tires.

Do you think I should keep the 16x7 size or change it up to something bigger & wider? And why?
They're going to be daily driven as I have dedicated track wheels already.

Oh & I've narrowed the wheels down to either Silver Advan RGs or Gunmetal Volk TE-37s on a Black TurboII.
Although, suggestions for other rims are welcome.

i don't think i could even drive 17's in this city... 16x7/7.5 is what i'll be aiming for next summer, i'm on 15x7" alloys now and taking a beating, albeit my tyres are 195 wide, and t-rated.

wider, but keep that precious sidewall height.

WookeysRX7
Terry, go with some 17's. 18 is just too big, 16's well same as stock and 15's are just too small unless you plan to strictly auto-cross on them. I vote for 17's.

Just a size note for you Saab, his wheels are 7" wide.

energie
What kind of car are they going on? I got 17" right now on 205/40/17, it's quite bumpy if i get new wheels i'm going with 16" but really wide.

WookeysRX7
THey are going on his RX-7 Turbo II.

dogstar
id say stay with 16x7s or go 16x8s if you can fit them.

get some nice thick sidewalls... this is edmonton, and if you already have track wheels/tires, its not like you need ultimate street/strip combo performance.

yeah exactly, it's more for looks than anything...I've got separate rims for "high performance driving" on the track

clean & subtle is the main theme
hence the gunmetal/silver on black

Terry ....

Go for some 17x9 in the rear and 17x8 in the front.

Wide rears look beautiful....its not the height of the rim on a sports car, its the width of the rear tires that make it!!

275 on the rear would look awesome!!

my 2 cents

JT

PS Why go 16'' thats stock size?

MightyMidget
my vote is for 17's!!!!

R-
275/35 17
255/40 17 both very very close to stock side wall (rolling diameter almost same)

F-
245/40 17 same side wall as stock.....as is rolling diameter
225/45 17
235/40 17 above 2 are very very close to stock size aswell.

T- I am not sure what the MAX width tires you can put on a triangle in the peanut car....but those would look sweet.
F- 215/45 17
R- 225/45 17 (both more realistic I think :dunno:

yeah I'd like to be able to rotate the wheels that's why a staggered setup isn't so ideal
also, 17" tires are $$$$$$$$$

plus the crapass roads in this city make low profiles a dangerous choice....

decisions decisions...

in that case Terry a 215/45 17 would be a good choice all the way around.

Terry..I have 17'' on the FD with 275 in the rear...

NO PROBLEMS AT ALL!!!

And my side walls are huge.....not domestic huge, but you catch my drift!

I KNOW that 275 could make your car look even hotter.....and if the rims are for looks than don't worry about streetablity....my FD has 275 rear and 235 fronts....no handling issues what-so-ever!!

Think about it...style and performance...no 225 crap for a RWdrive car...

CALL me...i can take those 17'' tire price woes away!!

heh...TE37's and youre still worrying about tire money :)
jk

Transporter
stick with 16" it is better for 2nd gen rx7 you cannnot compare 2nd gen to 3rd gen.

the car rides nice on 16" and 16" volk willbe lot cheaper tahn 17" and to get new tyres will also be cheaper on 16" than 17"

and like everyone said keep your sidewall.. you drive in edmonton..daily and now i will say it keep the side wall (45-55) don't get into the 40-30's

good luck

You know that that is just a percentage right ? my 35 aspect ratio rear tires have the same sidewall height that my 40 a/r fronts do which is the same as the 45 a/r stock size that came on my car.

yeah the same thought hit me after I posted it :p

Josh has a good point...uneven wear shouldn't be a huge concern since it's only street driven which could justify the staggered setup but you can also say that a staggered setup is more for race than street...

also, staggering is more for higher hp cars and can lead to some understeer if there's no power to compensate for it...

arabian_ryda
i think both the 16 inch and 17 inch would look good. but what would look nice is a 16 by 7 in the front and a 17 by 9 rim in the rear with a 4inch lip in the rear and a 2 inch lip in the front. that would give it the agressive look.......

kinda like this

i say go for the 17s. Its just one up from stock just like what i did and look at it.....they look better, u still have enough rubber on the sidewalls to provide a relatively comfortable ride, and yup wider rear tires DO make your car look better/wider. :D

Go 17's, not to much differnce in price these days. my 2cents
