Performance ideas??? - Click HERE for Original Thread

jeff92lude
Hey, i'm driving a 92 lude and all i have under the hood is a junky ractive CAI, just wondering how i can get some more punch without spending big bucks until i do my engine swap? I heard about some guys tuning their cars with the dyno and stuff, but im not sure how go get some more oomf out of my ride? any ideas?
Jeff

redmethods
engine swap & turbo + good tunning

buh_buh
in order to do any dyno tuning you'd need some sort of fuel management. The cheapest method of doing this would either be uberdata/Hondata/VAFC

jeff92lude
but will that give me more power at all....or just make sure its running well? How much would i be looking at?

92_WhItE_H23
i heard they add an avg 11 Hp or whp either way yes they do increase performance

jeff92lude
how much do i gotta spend.....to install the hondata and get it all tuned.
?

92_WhItE_H23
talk to 98luder..he will hook u up...

98Luder
you have H23?

1_Bar
for an H23 I'd just turbo it up...screw the H22 swap (I'll safely assume that this is the swap intended). I mean roughly 4gs for the motor, and another 4-5gs for the turbo plus building the motor....I mean the H22 is a good motor, but a Turbo H23 is a better alternative for the same amount of cash IMO.

Oh yeah Hondata

98Luder
I would say, ask yourself how much power you'd want in the end, and what's your budget. From that you can chose your course of action.

92_WhItE_H23
how bout my situation. Im sittin with an H23 with 233K on it...if im going to swap it might as well be an h22 shouldnt it? Or should i still stick with a new H23?

jeff92lude
wouldn't a turbo give me less power than the h22 swap? and cost just as much?

Yeah...if you wanna budget 4gs for it. Or you can rebuild your H23 for somewhat less and then be ready for a turbo or a very aggressive NA application.

But if your not going hardcore turbo/NA and just want decent power and maybe bolt ons in the future, an H22 swap would be a good choice.

Turbo H23 vs stock H22...the turbo H23 will give you more hp/torque then the stockie h22 will ever give you. H22 puts down roughly 155hp/120 torque (someone correct me if I'm wrong) whereas a turbo kit for the H23 will give you a hellava lot more 200+hp/160+torque for a little bit more then the swap.

But again, turboing any engine requires a built engine (especially ludes), minimal would cost roughly 3gs for sleeving, forged pistons and rods.

Like 98luder said before, it all depends on your goals and your budget. This will save you a lot of time and a lot of money in the long run....I mean don't waste money on a mugen header if you know you want to go turbo.

jeff92lude
what do you mean about the mugen header? The jdm H22 isnt set up for a turbo?

98Luder
yea if you have a Mugen header, you can't have a turbo manifold at the same time :)

Kiwi is not bad :)

As you can see there a little bit of a difference between a turbo manifold and a traditional NA header.

jeff92lude
so what kinda dollars am i looking at for a turbo on my h23?

1_Bar
Roughly 8 grand for a turbo kit and a built engine....

jeff92lude
holy shit, i think im gonna do the swap instead.... i got quoted 3500 installed for an h22a at phat power performance, he seems to know a lot about it......so if i do that then how much would a turbo cost on the new motor?

1_Bar
essentially the same price....the turbo kit is going to be the same, just different piping/manifold for the most part....

But if your going to turbo it newayzz, like I said before, I'd just stick w/ the H23 and turbo that...but who knows, maybe you'll be satisfied w/ the H22 swap....$3500 is a good price....

clapbak
incase u are wondering why i said that.. listen to this.. i goto phat.. to see prices for exhuast..
I asked how much for a custom catback apexi n1 muffler.. he said 550 bucks install n shit

i was gonna get 2 1/2 inch piping with a n1 muff..

So, i drop my car off thursday morning (few months agO) to get my exhuast installed, he drop's me off at work.. I get my sis to pick me up, to drive me back there after work.. take a look @ my exuhast.. he threw a ractive on there.. He claimed it was worth well over 500 bucks.. (obviously not) so i go home call matrix they said no more then 150 bucks.. looked to see if it was cat back.. NOpe.. alls he did id add a 2 inch pipe.. and used the old pipe..

So i call him back.. and he said .. ohh.. the n1 wouldnt fit.. im like wtf is universal.. so he gets all panicy and says hold for a sec.. im like NO!.. then i said id call the bbb.. he asked if i wanted the phone #! so i fucken started yelling.. .. Sooo he puts me on hold.. then he ask's how i can make it better.. i said get me my n1.. so hes like yea sure.. gimme a week.. week and a 1/2 later.. i go there.. see wtf is up.. still no muffler.. so i go home.. call the place where i got my load to pay for it exhuast from.. to hault all payments.. finally he gave me 300 bucks.. and let me keep the exhuast.. the guys a fucken bitch.. dont go there.. :\

92_WhItE_H23
well...i would say that is a rare incident..but also i agree ahah dont go there for stuff like a swap..go there if you want them to vacuum your car or tint it ...PE is probably the only tuner shop i would trust in edmonton for that. I got quoted 2100 From Customauto.ca for the h22a basic engine swap. Came to like 2700 for the COMPLETE set up including the LSD but then you gotta have it installed..btw that includes shipping from calgary.

jeff92lude
then how much is install? i also went to karbz and they quoted me straight from jdm with install just under 5g's

1_Bar
PET is the only place I'd take my lude to if it I lived in Edmonton...I don't care if you pay more or less or what, James and Hanson are very knowledgeable guys and they know what their talking about....

Sure some place can save you some bucks, but that's short term.....long term a lot of things can go wrong and end up costing you more money. Save some time and headache, spend a little bit more and get it done the correct way the first time....Just my opinion on things.
