Starting issues. - Click HERE for Original Thread

Hey guys jsut thought i'd post up here and see if anyone either has had the same issue or knows what it might be.

My 93 Prelude with an H22a swap has been having sporadic starting problems. Every once in a while it'll begin to start and right after the engine begins to turn over it stalls it self. Then i f i try to strat it after that it doesn't turn over at all. It usually takes a minute or two of waiting before it starts up again. For awhile i thought it would be the starter, but then I thought maybe it'd be the battery or the battery connections ( since i had the batery tested and the mechanic said it was fully charged ). I thought it might be the connections since every once in awhile the windows will be a little slower than usual, barely noticeable but its there. It doesn't always stall itself either, moreoften it just seems as if it takes just a little too long for the engine to turn over while its starting.

Aside from this the other major issue i am having is that between 5800 and about 6500 rpm it burns oil. I am gonna assume i need new seals. Am i right? or could it be anythign else related to v-tec since the oil burning seems to coincide with Vtec.

Any suggestions/advice would be appreciated.

Bobby

Does the car ever stall on you while your driving? Particularly in HOT weather? Can you describe any other symptoms...i have an idea of what it might be but need a little more info

no it hasn't ever stalled while driving and the temp reads a fine temp no matter whattemp it is outside.. althought the engine always seems much hotter than everyone elses when i open the hood after driving.... but it doesn occaisionally start and idel at about 1950rpm then drops then sometimes at a light the idle will drop down to like 200rpm and then go back up it almost feels like it wants to stall ( not often though)

yea same symptoms i had only mine got worse and started stalling while i was driving ...its a very common Honda problem (not sayign yours will be this but good chance it could be). Check your Main Relay, or the Igniter in the Distributor. My problem happened to be igniter its an 80 buck fix and easy to fix yourself. Open the main relay and make sure all the joints are connected and not broken..as for the igniter there really is no way to test that so wait until the car gets worse to find that one out...if in doubt just take it in and have soemone run it on a scope

sweet man thanx for the advice... this is going to sound really stupid, and ideally all potential respect i might have won't go flying out the window but im slightly lost as to how to check the main relay? little help maybe?

dont worry aha i was too...the easiest way i explain it is to pull your front seat all the way to the back... recline it back all the way and lay down with ur feet at the headrest and your head at the steering wheel...slide under neath the dash and you will see a couple wire batches, the main relay will be the box looking thing with 12 or so wires attached to it, the box will be attached like a clip to a piece of metal that is attached to the car..slide that box off and that is the relay..it will have the word MITSUBA written on it and 12V Relay ASS'Y MAIN
