Turbo Problems??????????????????? - Click HERE for Original Thread

socalsupra
i just bought a 3000gt twin turbo, was parked for around 8 months, drove home last night fine, changed the oil on it used amsoil turbo formulated, today i took it for a ride around the block not stepping on it, after about 2 minutes the turbo were spooling really high at really low rpms and the BOV was going off like crazy, if i stopped somewhere the car would stall, so i took itr home immediateley, timing belt hasnt snapped.

please help i dont know that much about turbo engines first turbo car ive owned

You bought it last night and this happened to you today? If you got it at a dealer, you go right back there and tear a strip off the guy. Probably why you got it for such a good deal with such low milage.

problem is partially solved, i drove my infiniti to my mechanic to get an oil change and i asked him about the 3000gt, he said it is the wastegate on the turbo thats not closing all the way and is letting too much air in, i'am supposed to rev the engine get the turbo's spooling really good or give each turbo a little hit cause teh car was sitting for at least 8months at they guys house who i bought it from, i just changed the oil on it yesterday and the wastegates are a bit sticky, but now i tried to drive the car and it sorta sputters and doesnt really drive for more than 30seconds, i guess ill have to tow it to his shop on Monday. :(

by the way i bought the car from a private sale and would obviously get it checked out by my mechanic who really knows his shit, i would for sure check a car like that for a cheap price but the problem isnt serious it just sucks that i wont be able to go to the meet tonight :(

I can understand that. But it's a bad omen for a car to start acting up, and this much, before you've had it a whole 24 hours. Private sale sucks, big time, when this sort of thing happens. Did you ask the guy why he was selling it for 8 months instead of driving it?

socalsupra
ya its an extremeley long story but hes not lying, hes my dads friend but until we looked at the car we didnt know he was the one selling it, the guy doesnt know anything about cars he thinks you can just park it for a year and start it one day and just drive it:blink:

my mechanic might come over on Saturday and check it

chris@apex
Sounds like your wastegate is not opening. Could be what you said, sticking or rust on the shaft. it also could be a boost line come off somewere. that would caus a problem too.

um..there is some problem with what ur mechanic said. a open wastegate will not make the turbo boost like crazy.

It sounds like a boost leak. or it can be ur wastegate is "not" opening at all. did u get any fuel cut?

No offense - but I do that with my beaters all the time. I usually put fresh oil when I park it for the summer, then start it right up in the winter. No problems here.

socalsupra
their is still other shit that can go wrong if you just start it after sitting a long time, if i were parking a car for the winter i would start it every week

the car is fixed now!!!!! it turns out one of the hoses going to the intercooler was slightly off so i put it back in and now its all good, but the timing belt is already squealing a bit so gotta change that on Monday along with the other 60,000mile services.

HOLY SHEEP SHIT BATMAN!

Timing belt that squeels and has teeth.
