Well I'm going to be leaving on my trip in about 24 hours and I won't be back until the 24th.
I hope all goes well with VUB Edmonton and SCC Calgary, make sure you guys take lots of photos and video! I'll be back for the last couple events of the season, unless a big ass Halbut eats me that is...heh.
Anyhow, enjoy July, make the best of the nice weather we're having....

Yes Pirates are not to be joked about. There is some scary shit going on, out on the high seas.
Matt hope the car is as good as it sounds. |

That I did Alia, that I did!
For anyone who's interested in fishing for some of the best sportfish in the world(30+LB Chinook Salmon aka "Tayees") I can not recommend the Queen Charlotte Islands enough. I spent 12 beautiful days fishing, crabbing and dirtbiking all around the fishing town of Masset on Graham Island. We easily caught our limits in Salmon(Coho and Chinook), Dungeness Crab, Halibut plus a few Ling Cod thrown in for good measure. Apparently there was a ton of other fish that we could have gone for, not to mention giant prawns, clams, etc.
The average size of the salmon was in the area of 18-20lb. Because of this I have been spoiled for fishing in Alberta forever! Never in our lives had we contemplated throwing back a 12lb fish because it was too small!!!
Here is a shot of my dad with his 32lb "Tayee"(Chinook) Salmon.

Here is the lineup of all the fish we caught that day. The 32lb is fifth from the bottom, the 12lb that we considered throwing back is fifth from the top, it looks positively tiny in comparison!

I can't even fathom listing all the wildlife we saw, from whales, dolphins and seals, to the hundreds of bald eagles roaming the shores of the islands it was truly amazing to see!
As far as scenery goes......it has to be one of the most beautiful places on this planet. What makes it better is just how untouched most of it is by the outside world, very little from the rest of the world effects these islands.
Anyhow, enough of my ramblings. I'll leave you with one more shot of a sunset at an old shipwreck on one of the many sandy beaches.

A ling cod is a really ugly ass fish, they look almost cartoonish with their big eyes for seeing in deep water. The oddest thing I noticed was that some other person had caught a few that were around 4 or 5 pounds, and when looking at ours which were in the area of 15 pounds they had the same size head, just a longer body. Very odd!
I'm not sure why I never took pics of the ling....I guess because they were so ugly. This guy's fish were of comparable size to ours though. When I googled ling cod it brought up some HUGE ones that people have caught, like this.
It's funny you should mention Alaska Steve, from where we were salmon fishing you could see some of the mountains of Alaska on the clear days. |
