I spent about 30 minutes getting re-aquainted with the new Unreal Tourney 2003.
Some new gameplay features and controls and special moves...
First and foremost is the dodge. Double tap the key in whichever direction you wish and your character will perform a slight leap in the according direction.
Double Jump, pressing jump again at the apex of you jump will make your character jump again.
I got nearly anihilated because I am still used to the slower pace and cautiousness of Ghost Recon.
Getting used to the new features is a challenge because I am so used to the old Unreal Tournament format.
To the Graphics. They are truley top notch, they will just about blow away anything in the water, the skins are so fantastically detailed these guys jump off the screen.
Gameplay has somehow been miraculously sped up. Despite all of the fanatical attention to texture details, it seems to run far better than the old version of Unreal.
I have parts I will be assembling for a local server at my house for Unreal. If anyone is interested in access, post replies here, perhaps we can start a little tourney of our own to pass the winter months.
More reports as events warrant. |

I really want to try that out. I finally have a Video card worthy...I have been playing on a Voodo Banshe! 128MB of DDR ram is outstanding in CS (maxed out FPS even in 1600x1200 with all options and in smoke), so lets try something that actually has decent graphix!
Might have to go invest! |

yeah, its a 2.5 GB install, sheesh, it's like you atleast need a 100GB drive to keep up with everything.
You need to submit something if you want to run an online server, so I'll see what I can comeup with :) |

I wanna get a little game server going again. I ran an Unreal tourney server for about a year with a group of friends and it was pretty fun.
It's nice to have a place to go when you're bored :)
Let's see if they'll give me an online server serial # |

I just took the half hour to install it, runs great on my P3 600 with the 128mb DDR eForce TI card I just bought.
The grafix are kick ass, and its great so see the linking of the old game to the new, with weapons and sayings, and the good ole Pelvic Thrust.
Oh, and "HOLY SHIT", haha Godlike surpassed |

i like the gameplay... i feel the aiming is an improvement from UT.
Also the weapons are good. The flak cannon feels as if the ammo is more bouncier. the rocket launcher feels the same. the shock rifle has a dramatic improvement in it's animation... you can actually feel the velocity of it. the chain gun is way too slow. the lightning gun is pretty cool.... feels more useful than the sniper rifle from UT.
i'm sad that the double enforcer is gone. the biorifle seems to be a lot stronger. and the pulse cannon seems to have been sedated.
keeps us updated on the game server |

Damn, the graphics are Wicked Sick, and the game play is so much better than the original!
Screenshots here: UT2003
I was playing this on the following:
P3 600MHz
384MB PC133SD Ram
GeForce Titanium 128MB DDR
1024x768 Screen Res in game
24bit color, and medium graphic detail
and it was still choppy.
takes up 3GB of HDD space. |

I shouldn't say its choppy, its just not smooth y'know...its only like 30fps, and in high size areas or where there is lots of death and destruction, it slows down to probably 10fps.
To give a contrast, I can run Counterstrike, on 1600x1200, 32 bit color max everything out, throw a smoke grenade and stand in the middle of it, and it is still maxed out in FPS. |

Having some trouble with the older database, so I'll post here:
Ok, to anyone who plays this game, I have a server I run on the evenings at my residence.
It was a tossup between Unreal 2003 or Ghost Recon.
Needless to say, Ghost Recon has won out due to stability, fun factor, and coolness.
I am on MSN usually in the evenings at 8pm, and usually play for about an hour to two.
Msg TurboNX@hotmail.com. If you see someone online with the alias of "Colgate Enema" you hit paydirt, that's me and I can give you details on connecting.
If you play like a cheap bastard, you WILL get booted.
Here is what you need to play on my server:
The latest Ghost recon patch ver. 1.2.10
Here: http://www.theplatoon.com/downloads/updates.asp
The Ghost Recon: Island Thunder mission pack CD
A Mission MOD for Ghost Recon Baja Bravo's Sabre Teams MOD
Here: http://www.theplatoon.com/mod.asp?file=236
All mods must be activated and the sabre teams with increased priority so all the Island Thunder splash screens will show.
Let's ghost it up! |
