clutch problems? - Click HERE for Original Thread

arabian_ryda
on my 89 accord i have to put the pedal pretty high up for the clutch to engage and when im acceleratoring fast i can hear the revs going up but the car isnt speeding up as fast as its reving slipping they might call it. so i was reading in the owners manual that sometimes if the clutch pedal is to high or the clucth is slipping that the pedal might need to be adjusted but my dad is saying it needs a new clutch and that the car automaticly ajusts the pedal height it self. but i say that the pedal is so high up that the clutch might not be engaging fully causing it to slip at higher torgue anways im taking it to my mechanic to see what he says next week but i would like to see what u guys have to say about this.........

My 86 prelude does the same, it didnt bother me that much, I didnt want to race the car haha. If it is just the clutch pedal lemme know cuz i'll go and adjust mine before I sell it.

for sure man.

If you can't adjust the clutch and you can tell its slipping or taking its time to catch inbetween shifts you may need a new clutch.

if you have a manual you could try putting the car into 3rd or 4th and try to take off from a dead stop in 3rd or 4th, if the car dies its catching just fine, if you starty revving higher and the car isn't moving you probably need a new clutch. I know its not that technical but it can give you an idea.

Clutch pedal adjustment shouldn't alter the engagement point of the clutch either.

how did the pedal height get so high in the first place?? Did you adjust yourself or what, is there play in the pedal before the engagement point, like an inch or so??

play as in? the pedal dosnt shake but one thing i forgot to add was the pedal is kinda stiff meaning that i have to push the clutch pedal alittle hard than most standards ive driven

I did this with my car.. tho I was usually driving about 30kmh in 4th gear.. if i pushed on the gas my revs would go up, and my speed wouldnt... its easier than stalling :)

I can actually start my car out in 3rd gear.. gotta love torque :)
