nissan 240sx stalling - Click HERE for Original Thread

240sx
i have a 92 240sx and it stalls quite often.
mainly when im coming to a stop i put the clutch
in and shift to Neutral. and if i don't manually keep
the RPMs up it will almost always stall.:dunno:
i just need some ideas on what to fix so i dont spend
so much money trouble shooting.
i was thinking maybe its the O2 senser.
any suggestions will be helpful
thanks

Sounds like it could be the EGR valve sticking open.
I remember reading somewhere that this is not uncommon for this vehicle.
You could try taking it off and checking the carbon build-up on it.

Check the TPS, clean the maf with carb cleaner, check timing and adjust idle.

My car was doing this when I first got it, and my dad just stuck some fuel cleaner or something in the tank, and let it run for like an hour sitting still.... and whammo no problems. Maybe mines just special?:dunno:

Not sure about cleaning the MAF, usually it doesn't get dirty unless you've been car swimming ;) (which apparantly many people have)

Detail strip it and do a visual on the element, look for discolorations and anything that isn't shiny.

If you've never cleaned your throttle body try that with some carb cleaner. The best way to do it is to strip the intake pipes so you can get at the throttle body easily, prop the throttle blade open with something, spray in the carb cleaner and take a toothbrush and start scrubbing the blade, around the blade and the inside of the throttle body while rinsing out with the carb cleaner.

It's my guess that this hasn't been done in awhile. As far as I know, Nissan SR motors suffer from this, I think it applies to KA motors as well. When the throttle blade is closed, there isn't a complete seal, there should be a few mm's of clearance to allow air to pass through.

When carbon and crud build up over time, this can eventually close off this gap and effectively choke off your motor.

You might also need to set your TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) as Nis 240 said.

Let us know how it is progressing.

They can get dirty from the oil that is used on K&N filters.
