thats retarded you shouldnt have to pay for anything, the car wash should have insurance. Or if htey dont pay for it tell them ure quittign and find another job, it will probly be cheaper and they will have to pay anyways....bad luck man and even worse management where you work.

If he wants to keep his job he has to.
They have grounds to fire him for doing this, so he has to decide what he wants - the job or to pay 1/2 the cost. |

| I guess your right. I guess my employer at the time just let me off easy when I damaged a customers truck (loading a pallet into the back of a pickup with a forklift and a broken board on the skid damaged the tailgate). The told me since it was obviously and accident I didnt have to pay anything, and they didnt even get mad at me. :dunno: |

Well this is an example of what I know of the system.
I am going to use domo here for this, K billy is a good worker and is working the late shift at domo and has a nice busy night of jumping to the pump for U.
near the end of the shift and close up time he counts all the pop's and jugs of oil and cash in the till, he find that the till is short 10 bucks.
He fill's out the paper work for this short fall and countinues on his way.
Now payday comes along and billy is looking at his check....it's shy 10 bucks and on the pay stub it shows 10 bucks was taken off for Misalliance, so he ask's his boss what it was for and his boss tell's him cause the till was shy 10 bucks that one night and that he has to pay for it....billy thinks he is getting ripped off so he call's the labor board.
they tell him that his boss can NOT take the money off his check cause things like this are part of the chance you take with owning a business and is considerd a company expense.
And hiring ppl who are compedent of doing the task's the job requires is also part of the risk of owning a business.
Now a company can not even fire you unless you have had a list of things like this happen and you are grossly incompetent as a person or an employee.
same can be said if you are busted at work for drinking/drug use the company can not really fire you but has to see that you are put through a rehab program and encouge your recovery.....this is of course under the idea that no one got hurt or killed cause of this in which case the court's will put you in rehab.
now in your situation you may have to pay the deductable which could be a few hunderd bucks or less depending of the total costs.
I myself have gone through something like this a long time ago were I refused to pay them for the damges in the full amount so they fired me and did not give me a last check....I talked to the labor board and they took care of it and got me my money minus the deductable and the company was also found in breach of wrongful dismissal and had to pay out an approxment amout of wages lost for the time I was off looking for anouther job.
Now many companys will get you to sign a pecie of paper before you start working for them that in many cases is illegal but it is there excuse to make you pay for shit and if you don't sign it you don't get the job...kinda catch 22.
so take the time and reserch this cause labor laws have changed a bit but this can be more than worth your while. |

Ya man dont jsut pay up cuz they tell you that you have to. My dad owns a construction company and stuff sometimes gets damaged its jsut the way of life, he has never made any of his employees pay for anything, he jsut gives them shit, tells them to be more careful and not let it happen again, and that usualyl works.
If they are making you pay, QUIT, who knows how else they will try t ofuck you over. Just tell them that you are gonna get a lawyer, maybe it will scare them. If they do make you pay half they are BAD EMPLOYERS.
P.S. i work from about 9pm till 4-6am every friday/saturday at a Dante's its not that bad, its fun:bthumbup:

I agree complete with your statement of the employer not being able to deduct money.
However you are completely wrong on the employer's ability to fire you. In Alberta the labour laws favour the employer, and if they want to fire you they can without any hassles.
Employers may give you certain priviliages (Especially if you're a full timer), but when they want to fire a PT employee it's as simple as counting to three. |

| Same thing happened when I worked at Sherwood Nissan. Some wash guy left a door open, backed out, and BAM, bent the door right back against the side of the car (well just about). |
|
|
| Mekanik22 |
| I managed to crumple a fender of a 2004 Maxima just about into nothing, and I got off easy, I never had to pay. So I guess it all depends on the employer :dunno: |

|
| scooby_dooby |
imo there's accidents, then there's complete fuckups, i mean it's an automatic, he forgot to put it in park it rolled backwards and it bent the door backwards,
i mean no offense intended, but you don't get any dumber than that, it's just a complete lack of attention, i'd take it as a lesson learned and pay for the repairs, that way you'll probably pay more attention in the future. |

| lol. i was in a rush. thanks for the support, ppl screamin at u to do shit faster things happen when ur in a rush. i aint payin shit son. it was an accident. the company is insured. they can pay, they can fire me too. |
