| I"m travelling and lost my cell phone: a Sanyo 8100. I had just signed a 2 year contract with Bell. Do I have to pay full price for a new phone or do I have a cheaper alternative? A new camera phone is $429.. <- not cheap. Bell says tough luck. |

| I have lost my cell twice from Rogers and every time I tried to purchase the new phone, I decided to extend the contract period and got a deal. I don't know how the bell works, but it's better disable your account first (becaz someone picks up your phone and uses it!) and talk to the salesperson which would be the cheapest way to purchase another phone. Did you buy it with a credit card? Some cards carry insurance for this kind of thing for a short time (90 days?) after a purchase. |

| If you don't find your phone or get another new one for a good price, I still have my Audiovox 8500. It is a year old and I used it for exactly one year. No color sceen, but it is nice and small and works good. I have the desktop charger, car charger, hands-free, leather belt clip, plastic belt clip and the owner manual. $60 if nothing better comes along for you. |

| u can just cancel the contract, tell them to go fuck themselves. then the phone company will offer you a great deal on a phone, or else in soem cases they will just send u a cheap one. |

If you cancel your contract early, they'll penalize you. I think you'll have to pay more money if you do. |

actually, after ordering the refurbished phone, the percel wasn't arrived for a couple of months becaz the Purolator fuked up shipping and sent the cell back to Rogers, and Rogers was about to cancel the contract becaz of the lost contact which I didn't know... I wish I'd have known what happening and buy another cell. Maybe, try to give them a fake address and try to get another one if possible...;)

if you claim the phone is STOLEN, not just lost, then the phone company will let you off the hook for the contract with no penalties. or else they will offer to send u a new phone.
no joke, a guy i worked with at futureshop complained to telus about his phone and they sent him a brand new motorola flip for free. |

| My phone was STOLEN and I told Rogers that, and they said that either pay the penalty or buy I refurbished...for a shittier phone than I had stolen, for $90-150 depending on phone... so I told them i wanted to cancel it and pay the extra. A week later, their "special offers" department calls and says they'll waive the penalty and give me a new colour phone with 6 months free local air time just to keep me as a Rogers customer. |

| yea if you bail they will come back to you in a few weeks and try and keep you so you dont jump ship to another company. |

| Thanks for the advice guys. I just got back from the East Coast, Bell Customer Service was not much help. They said tough luck, pay the full price for a replacement phone, but they'd waive some crap Bell fees ($35 to hook up a new cell, and $35 to use the old number) when I get a new one. I think I might terminate my 2yr contract, since they haven't been too helpful. Thanks for offering to help, you guys rock! |
