Problem with Panasonic Deck - Click HERE for Original Thread

SplineZ
ok, so im tearin the POS cassette deck outta my neon, and puttin in my cd player.. I hooked everything up properly I BELIEVE, but i cant get the SOB to turn on..

In accessory, the red and black wires are getting 12v, in off, they get nothing.. Shouldnt that be enough to power the deck on? I just took it out of the fiero where it was working..

Im doing the best I can considdering the stock wireing harness was torn to shreds.. Ive got a wiring diagram from installdr.com, and everything looks ok..

Ive checked the fuses, the wirse leading to the deck get power and the ground is ok..

Anyone got any ideas? Or an oldish 01 panasonic deck I could plug in to make sure my deck isnt fried?

Grab the wiring diagram for your Panasonic deck and hook it up according to the diagram (Not according to what wiring was hooked up to a previous deck, especially since you said the wiring was a mess).

It'll tell you which need constant 12v, which need switched 12v, which is ground, etc....

I'm not sure your black wire is right - all of the decks I've installed (Well, all three of them), used an orange (or was it yellow?) wire for the 12v (when ignition on) and red for constant 12v.

The wiring diagram for the deck will fix this - once you get that, it's just a matter of testing the voltage in the wires when the car is off, again when accessories are on.

I hope this made sense....

If you want to test your deck out, hook it up straight to the battery (Don't need speaker to see if it works). Then you bypass the possibility of blown fuses/bad wiring...

I think the black should be to ground, not 12V
??
I guess i'm not sure if that's what your saying though.........

When i touch the red and black wirse with my volt meter, It shows 12v.. so black is ground, red is hot :)

Im going to bypass all the stock wiring and see if that works...

From the deck there should be three main power and ground wires.
The yellow goes to constent power, the red goes to accessory, and the black to ground.
The deck wont work without the yellow wire hooked up, thats the main power, but you'll need the red and yellow to have power when you turn your deck on.

Just make sure the yellow gets constent power otherwise your deck will reset every time you start your car.

I bypassed everything.. works perfectly.. the previous owner chopped apart the harness, and it was getting 12v some of the time..

Thnx for everyones help! :)

Now just to rewire all the speakers.. haha
