problem with a ticket. - Click HERE for Original Thread

i recieved my first speeding ticket about 2 months ago, on my way to calgary. 130 in a 110 or something like that. Anyways i cant read the due date. it looks like it was 2003 imprinted on the ticket and crossed out and now it looks like it is due in 2005. what is the normal amount of time for a ticket to be due? do you think they will give me a break on due date?

Umm i know in BC atleast you have 30 days to decide if you are going to fight it or pay it or what, If you dont do that in 30 days it is put down on record and unpaid and if you get pulled over by the cops you are kinda in trouble. Thats just BC .

Either way like me i got a ticket on the weekend doin 80 in a 60 , i already paid it and its nicein BC u pay right away its 25 dollars off so my ticket was 113 which is not that bad , sucks but meh.

Either way if there is a next time and you have the funds, pay right away is what i think

Best thing to do is take the ticket into your nearest Court & get the Clerk to check on the exact dates. What is the month the payment is due? I really doubt a ticket written 2 months ago would have a payment date set as far down the road as 2005.

Police officers are required to give at least 21 days from the date of the offence until the date of payment (Court) when serving an "Offence Notice (yellow)" or "Summons (pink)". More serious offences where a "Promise To Appear" or "Appearance Notice" is served there really isn't any set period of time but usually it's close to a month or longer so the officer has an opportunity to prepare the file & get disclosure sent to the Court.

thanks guys.

i friend of mine said i might beable to get off because i cant read the due date properly! does that make sence? i dont deny the fact that i was going over the limit, but is it possible to get off on a minor technicality like that?

No...pay it.
