I went last night and was going to not say anything until after I ran at the track but I'm too excited.
I'll be honest and say that these numbers are not perfect, I am running a touch lean and have a bigger fuel jet on order to fix that. We had a slight burp/miss on the dyno and we believe it is due to needing a couple of degrees of timing retard and/or more octane. An MSD is not in the budget for this year so I'll be picking up some race fuel for the track, either that or a shit load of VP octane boost. Also, we pulled one of my plugs and Travis believes I am/was detonating very slightly. This could be a combination of things so I picked up new plugs today and will put them in before my next run at the track and pull them right after that run to see what we have.
Sorry, they didn't give me cd this time so you'll just have to trust my numbers. Horsepower is a flat line above 210 right to redline. Torque peaks at 4000 rpm and drops steadily. It is at 275 lb/ft at 4000rpm, 210 lb ft at 5252rpm and 175lb/ft just before redline.
RUN # 1- Travis(dyno operator) says "I don't know what its going to be but it pulled fucking hard " Spiked wayyyyy lean though
216.81 HP
279.6 ft/lbs
RUN #2- used a one size bigger NX jet from a kit in the shop, still a bit lean (around 14 but drops under 13 in the higher RPMs where the load is greatest)
217.03 HP
274.10 ft/lbs
Comments? Besides my clutch is going to explode? |

| holy smokes what did you do that car.  |

| Are you sure you don't have those hp an torque #s mixed up? That's a CRAZY amount of torque to come out of a 2.4L 4 banger! |

It's definetly the right numbers. this what I did when I saw the numbers pop up on the screen..........

Thanks for the compliments men.
Sorry for the crappy picture but Apex didn't have a cd copy for me this time.

So when did you let your car inhale the nitrous:p
Those tourqe #'s are insane, good work. Was it you that had the black Cavalier on the dyno before I ran my Talon? If so, thats a damn nice ride:bthumbup: |

| HOLY HELL thats a lean spot. I would seriously look at getting that under control ASAP. Even the run where it doesn't go above 18:1 is still over 14:1. You might lose a little of your peak torque, but it will be whole lot more reliable. |

4G63- I know, its hard to figure out when it turns on  Thanks for the compliment, your car isn't too shabby itself:cool:
Justin- I know, did you read the first post? Fuel jet is on order, race gas is going in for the track. I was running my 75 shot at around 8 : 1. We'll try to tune this shot for around 10-12:1 but we didn't have any bigger fuel jets. I don't know anyone that keeps NX jets in stock and NOS jets won't work. BTW- was that you at Apex getting an intake put in? Your BOV sounds cool and the car looks mint. |

Thanks, yeah that was my car.
If I wasn't so hungry, I would have stayed around to watch your dyno run :)
I guess I didn't read your post too carefully, just shocked because I've never seen an A/F ration go above 18 before. Looks like it's under better control at 15:1, but I'd stay off it until you get the new jet.
Your car must feel like a rocket when you hit that button. That's like a 150 Ft# jump in torque almost instantly.

That dyno run looks awesome............
Imagine hitting that coming around a nice sweeping turn...........and Warp factor 10 is hit.......... I wonder if you could keep it in control :D
Curious at how many shots of this abuse that cav will take.....?? |

| I'll say it again those torque #s r good |

Justin- I put the jet in right before the dyno and haven't sprayed since then. So I imagine it will feel like a rocket but until I get an MSD or race fuel and the bigger jet, I'm not going to bother opening the bottle. Safety first after all. Wouldn't be much point in going on the dyno to tune the AF and then sayin "ah fuck it, I'll run it lean anyway":)
Ae- I don't know if I could keep control, but I can imagine doing a road course race and trying it out..... Warp factor 10 would be right. As far as how long it will last, the clutch will be gone by spring or sooner I imagine. Although it hasn't slipped at all yet. There is a guy in the states that ran a 100 shot on the same engine for 3 years and had 100's of timeslips. So if I keep up the safety precautions I can't see it blowing up. I've seen about 10 or so stock internalled cavaliers on a US site that are running turbos with around 250 hp and tq. So internal strength shouldn't be an issue considering my power isn't very high in the higher rpms where rod stress is the greatest. The only thing I'm a little concerned about besides my immediate fuel and timing issues is the possibility of head gasket failure. thats about the only thing that I have no idea of if or when it will happen. Everything else was thouroughly researched before I made the decision to go with the big shot. And I only spray at the track so that cuts down on a ton of wear and tear through the week.
Thanks everyone for being respectful, helpful and nice even though "it's just a Cavalier". |

Wow. I'm surprised your motor survived. 18:1 on hard acceleration? Even 14:1 is plenty enough to detonate an engine to pieces... I would've stop the run as soon as I saw the AFR go over 13.
Definitely tune it so it doesn't go over 13:1. :)
12.5:1 even better.

Eric knows what the deal is.
Run it a little fat and add timing until you see detonation, then back it off half a degree. |

| I'll definetly post my next dyno with the MSD and new fuel jet. Should be next week hopefully. Believe me, I didn't like seeing it go lean either. |
