s15 help - Click HERE for Original Thread

redlin3
i just bought a 1990 240sx....and in a month or 2 im planning to do a s15 conversion along with a sr20det swap.
i already have rims chosen

http://www.motegiracing.com/wheels/...c=&section=
thats the link of the rims in case u wanna see...

but my problem is...i have yet to find a nice kit that looks good with the s15 conversion...and right now the car is red...but i wanna paint it a different color...i was thinking..rsx blue or something...itll look good wit a cf hood i think

any opinions?

Thanx
:D

i think you should be worried more about your engine swap and what not before worring about cosmetics...
You make it sound like you just take one out, and put the other in... and plug it in.
Although that is KINDA what you do, it's not as easy at it sounds :p

time to get the priorites straight. ;)

maxpayne126
i agree with mustard. a swap is way more important than cosmetics. even though it sounds like plug and play, itll take more time than u think. engine mounts, intercooler(if your getting one), proper tuning, etc....

TheWask
Well to answer your question, instead of jumping to conclusions about what you know, or don't know, what about the one in your avatar?

Or these......

Good luck!

Ok...:p Not to sound offensive, but you sound like the way I did a while back before I started doing research.

Heres some advice:

1) The wheels that you have chosen will NOT fit on a 240sx with out a 5 bolt conversion. The 240sx comes in a 4x114.4 bolt pattern. If you really want those rims then I'd suggest a 5 bolt conversion. (I'm not too sure about how much this costs...)

2) Sourcing out an SR20DET might not be too hard, but make sure you have all the parts in order to swap it into your 240. Getting an entire front clip from a 180sx is a lot easier than finding little bits here and there for the swap. (Expect this to be around $4000-5000 after you're done??? :dunno: Just a guess)

3) TheWask>> Great looking kits, but they won't fit onto redlin3's car, since its only the front end that is from the S15, the rest would be a RS13.

4) A s15 conversion isn't necessarily a cheap thing to do either. Sure it'll look nice, but do you have the money? Conversion fenders, a front bumper, a hood and the headlights would run you about $3000-4000 (:dunno: MY ballpark guess). Then you need to find a core support from a S14 or S15 in order to make it properly fit onto your RS13. (I think its around $500:dunno: from your Nissan Dealership)

5) Painting your car isn't much of a big issue, but this should be considered at the END of all the cosmetic changes that you're making to the 240sx. :p Just make sure you get a top-end paint job, since you're doing all of this work to your car.

6) Research, Research, Research - You can never learn everything in a single lifespan, but it doesn't hurt to try.

All of this is supposed to be constructive and helpful, not trying to sound a little aggressive, etc. :dunno: I don't know too much about cars yet, so feel free to correct any of my mistakes.

SRBURG13
If you get an S15 front end conversion, the whole front end will be like an S15, therefore you could theoretically put any S15 front on the car.

As for the wheels. Well, with that motor, you should probably consider wheels that are slightly wider than 7". mr sars is right, none of those wheels will fit unless you do a 5-bolt conversion which could set you back about $800 or so.

The front end conversion is about another $4000-$6000, and the motor swap is roughly in the same range, and more depending on the upgrades you want to put on the motor.

There are hundreds of S15 front ends out there, just search around. Mostly the Japanese companies, because obviously the S15 never made it to the US market, therefore people not bothering to make the front ends for it.

Good luck, and you should check out www.n-e-c-c.com for more information.

mr_sars
^ :p I thought he meant a full body kit, and some of TheWask's links led to full body kits for S15s.

BTW, I think I've seen your car around Ellerslie Crossing sometime. Was that you???

redlin3
hehe, yah i know the conversion and the swap itself is a tuff and long job...but im confident me and my crew can do it.....considering we work at a car performance shop :p
but one thing i didnt see at all was the rims...hmmm...well hopefully i can find rims like those that are 4 bolt...but u guyz are right i might hafta do a 5 bolt conversion...
but its sall good....all i really need was opinions on wat would look good...money, research on the engine and the conversion pretty much done.......but help never hurts.
Actually...wat the initial plan is...my friend is going to Japan and getting a whole shitload of jdm engines shipped over here...about 80..i think (yah, like i said...a shitload).....anyways, one of them being my sr20det..wat he also was gonna do is bring in a whole s15 front clip...so pretty much the whole front end of my 240..like from the driving console and up...would get ripped out...and the s15 from japan would be put in...making my car a rhd....can you say HUGE PROJECT?!?!?
haha..thats the plan...but we shall see

mr_sars
^ If you want a RHD conversion I think that rather than ripping apart your 240 and rewiring it, it would be easier to just import a 180sx and perform all the mods on that instead. :p Just to make life a little easier on you!

redlin3
potentially......but i just bought the 240, lol :p

mr_sars
Winter Beater haha :D

redlin3
this is off topic
but our company just go its site up..but right now we dont have any rides in our 'featured ride' section since the site just went up just a few days ago...all though its meant for EVC customers..i think i might make it for anyone who has a nice ride..or a ride that is somewat modded....cant find the pics of any of the cars we did up..since we just moved and everything is in a state of debacle...probably laying around somewhere in the shop
so yah...if u guyz are interested in putting ur ride up on our site www.extremevelocity.ca just pm me
thanx

redlin3
and as for making my 240 a winter beater...no...lol
i luv it too much to give that thing a beating thru winter..hehe

DomesticDrifter
ugh.... when did you decide to make you're 240 rhd? that would mean you'd have to make a custom dash and a whole lot of other custom fab work. shit man thats alot more work then just a strait redtop engine swap. s15 sr20det won't just bolt right in and the tranny needs some custom fab work to work too. anyway. good luck on the project...... better start selling more drugs to aford the 65k you're gonna put into the car to make it a strawberry faced, s15 sr20det, 5 lug, rhd 240. jk:blink:

stealth
first thing i would do is focus on the swap. Im saying this because i am in the middle of one.

Some things to note u may need, which i need for my car are the following:

Intercooler
Axles
Intercooler Piping
Motor Mounts
Exhaust

so put that into consideration as that can add up quickly.

redbaron303
www.srswap.com I believe is a valuable resource....?

redlin3
.......why does everybody assume that i DONT know that its a difficulty swap...EVEN tho i said myself i know its a tuff and long job...*sigh*..ah well..

anyways....my friend gave me the idea of doing a rb25det swap...obviously a lot more cash involved...and obviosuly an incredibly tuff swap..but still doable...but the main questions is.....is it worth it?considering its gonna need custom driveshaft, intake and piping, downpipe and whole shitload more of customization or should i just stick with a sr20det swap? I see this project taking a LONG LONG LONG TIME.... only considering cause itll be different..dont know any 240s wit skyline motor..anyways...opinions?

im not saying its difficult.

actually its quite easy, well for my car it is, considering you have basic mechanical knowledge, which im sure you have, because you work in a shop.

Im just saying take it into consideration for your budget, unless you have a sufficient enough of money to play around with.

But like me i dont, as i am a full time student, so my body kit will be comming once i get all the engine related matters out of the way.

Sam

mr_sars
Wait...are you putting a SR20DET from a S13 or from a S15 into the 240??? If its one from a S15 well...then...have fun.... I've heard of people dropping RB engines into their 240s, but I personally don't think its worth the time or the money.

bigmack000
spiffy website thats all i can say :blue:

redlin3
hehe thanx :D
just need to advertise it more, and get some products and feature rides up there so ppl can see wat we are capable of doing...and need more ppl on the forums.......but eventually we'll get bigger...we're planning to do a V.I.P nights thing like they do in the states...pretty much a car meet...for ppl to show of their rides and for ppl to gain knowledge. :blue:

arabian_ryda
did u say your gonna put the s15 dash in your 240sx?

p0y
i sounded like you.ha.....but worry abt the engine first. that will take up most of your money. and believe me the only place that i found a FULL s15 conversion is off of extremedimensions.com and believe me, from what i heard is that most of their applications do not fit. so have fun with the conversion. i just decided to save up for an R32 .

Can't be! It's too obvious!

stealth
good luck with the swap, i just ran into a problem with mine lol, i need new motor mounts.:)

redlin3
hahaha thanx stealth...too bad about the problem u ran into..hope ya get it fixed soon...yah..i guess im just gonna worry on the swap as of right now...stupid peer pressure :p ...

rd_man
it sounds like you plan on putting an s15 SR into your car, and if that is the plan, why not go with the rb25, it will take slightly more work than the s15 and its much more original, dont think an SR is an SR, the s15 engine is a bitch to get into that car, i hope your firneds at your "performance shop" have done it before because i sure as hell woudnt want them to do that kind of job for the first time on my car, hope it runs smoothly, oh and you must be a very rich guy to undertake a project like this, did you consider your suspension setup, or this gonna be a show car
