76(1) In this section, "passenger car" means a motor vehicle that is
designed primarily to transport people and has a seating capacity of

So i'm a lil' fuzzy on this, do I need a bumper on my mazda b, is it legal to just have a straight tailgate and rollpan skin? Thanks in advance! |

Yes, you are legal ... a pickup truck does not have to follow the bumper requirements that passenger vehicles (normally cars) have to. You are legal w/ just the tailgate & rollpan you described (you actually don't need either). What you will want to insure though is that the fuel tank must be protected so you don't end up like a mid 70's Pinto (okay, now I'm telling my age).
Just a little FYI ... you may want to insure that you have the license plate mounted properly (as there will be no rear bumper) - Section 70 Operator Licensing & Vehicle Control Regs & mudflaps installed if required - Section 64 VER.

You're ok...Mazda sold the trucks without rear bumpers...any bumper on the back of a pre-1994 (when they became Ford Ranger twins...in other words, while they were still real Mazdas) was a dealer installed option.
We had one on the back of ours, but got smacked by a hit 'n driver, which bent up one corner of the bumper, afterwhich I simply removed it from the truck. |
