Hey,
Has anyone ever built their own custom trunk setup? If so, can I have some pointers....
So far I have brainstormed a bunch of shit on what I need and where to use it...First off, you gotta know that i'm all about appearance and show, not the sound...i'm not gonna be entering any SPL competitions etc. So im doing this all for appearance...
Well, im not going to give everything away, but im going to be using MDF, mirrors, and lots of Plexiglass
I basically am building a false floor, building sidewalls, and building a middle wall out of plexi where the sits will be situated....
Amps will run along the floor, and caps and some other shit will be along the side lol
Also, I need some equipment, basically a whole new system, so if anyone can help me out that would be great!

| Kid you know where to come, I built flase floor setups for some of the Beyond guys, so I can help you out if you can make it up to Calgary sometime. System equipment wise I can only get you discounts on brand new shit (you'd be stupid not to put a Pioneer AVIC-N1 in :D) so it you're looking to buy new I'll help you out as much as I can. Draw me a few decent pics of what you want the trunk to look like, then we can take measurements of your trunk and equipment and build that beotch. I might be able to hook you up with cheap or free MDF as well, but we'll see, hope you're not using that plexiglass for a wall of the sub box because thick plexi gets very expensive very fast. Give me a call when you're in town next and we'll work on this beast. |

| Ive got 4 ten inch rockford punch subs sitting around....they handle 200 rms a piece and sound good.....id let em go for 50 bucks a piece or let ya borrow em for the show or something. |

shannon- free MDF would be killer, cheap MDF would be tight too, i can get it for maybe 25-30 bucks/sheet at work (8x4) so lemme know if you can get a better deal!
as for plexi, im gonna plexi everything, i know that a sheet of plexi is fockin expensive, so i gotta find some lying around the shop here and see what i can do lol i have my design kinda drawn, but looks like garbage....its more or less in my head...so i dont know when i will be in cgy next, but i will let you know for sure, i wanna work on the setup alot while my kit is being shipped, cuz once that gets here fuck the system im gonna be working on the kit all day and night...
skyline- what model are they? i mean, what year? hit me up with some pics and let me know how new they are...im still trying to decide on a company to go with, so far im leaning towards Audiobahn.......... |

| They're the low end punch xlc...200 rms. Just something to throw in there "in the meantime" sorta thing. They're about 2 years old...but have never had only 125 rms through them. If need be you can borrow em....or buy em..up to you. |

What thickness of MDF are you looking at, 3/4" I presume for the box and 1/2" or so for support structures for the floor? I'm definetly down for building that shit for you as I will need to be redoing my "trunk" at the same time anyway so we can buy shit in bulk and save. I'll be needing some thick ass plexi as well so we can share costs on that if you need that same thickness, colour, etc.
Those XLCs will handle a lot more then their rated values as well, I've also got a 12" XLC (1999 model I think) laying around here (maybe two but one will need to be reconed if I still have it), and 2 12" HX2s (2002 models), but I blew the living christ out of the HX2s so they need repair, probably motor structure repair, cones are still good. The XLCs are a pretty decent sub and at $50/each not a bad deal at all, 4 tens would be sick in the back of the fire. I can get you the same Pioneer subs I'm running for probably close to $75-$90/each new right now as well if you are interested. I would have never bought Pioneer subs but these little bitches are worth more then their weight in gold, rated at 200w RMS/400w Peak, but I'm pushing 650w RMS and 1300 w Peak through each sub right now and they're still ticking, loud as fuck too, those are what allowed me to dominate street B last year in DB Drag :D What were you looking at setting up equipment wise for the system? I'll look around and see what I can dig up for you in equipment. |

im not really huge into stereos since im not gonna be entering SPL comp's etc, so i dont really care as long as i have some punch....i think im going to go with Audiobahn 15's...2 of them.....i found a kill deal on em...
as for an amp (s) and cap (s) i dont have a clue what to do, but the subs are rated at 650watts rms and 1300 watts peak so i dont know what amp of caps i need, i hurt with systems, i know some shit, but not technical mathematician shit lol |

| You don;t really need caps, but if you are going for the show look nothing beats two 1 farad digital caps, somehting like the SC201MNC near the bottom of this page. |

well today i spent a good 8 hrs building and getting everything ready...
I started at 11 this morning and built until 7pm...first i got some cardboard, and made a dummy setup so that when i got MDF plywood, all i would have to do it trace and cut....
so doing all the cardboard design crap took a few hrs, cuz my trunk is all curvy etc in some places...so did all that..then went to windsor plywood and got a sheet and a half of 1/2 inch MDF...premium quality shit...
then got abck and started cutting away, and at 7 tonight i had all pieces cut except for a couple small ones, and had it all fitted etc...so the floor is done, as well as the enclosures, now i need to get the system and carpet, and some lexan :) |

| Yeah I might be hitting up the Big 4 sale as well, it'll probably be the first year I don't drop a stupid amount of money at it though, we'll see depending on what kind of compensation I get from the paint shop for them taking so fucking long and fucking up my locks. |
