I wanna change my exhaust, from the typical rear exiting type... to the style from the 95ish vipers (side exiting)
Just want to know whats required in an exhaust system to remain legal? (muffler, resonator, cat, ect)
I'm runnin a dual set up (1 exiting each side near rear wheel)... ideally i'd like to keep it pretty free flowing for power, but also keep sound down so as not to attract cops...
Any info or suggestions is welcome..
Thanks,

| Fuck man, to keep it legal here, the only requirement is to not have a huge rice pipe hanging out the back. Apparently thats all cops in this shithole city look for. |

Nah, they'll ticket anything they think they can get away with.
I didn't know anybody made a kit like that for a tibby, but it sounds cool. Just do it and if you get a ticket take it to court and ask the judge where it states that you cannot change your exhaust system if it doesn't result in the production of "excessive" noise. |

You don't need a muffler or anything (The SRT4 doesn't from the factory).
However, as long as it is kept quiet you won't get hassled - get a typically rice muffler like most imports have and you will. |

I don't believe there is any legal concern for having the exhaust out the sides. Basically if you have wider than stock exhaust tips then you can get a ticket (very lame law) , or if it increases the noise level.
The exhaust section of the Traffic Act states:
61(1) A motor vehicle propelled by an internal combustion engine
must have an exhaust muffler that is cooling and expelling the
exhaust gases from the engine without excessive noise and without
producing flames or sparks.
(2) A person shall not drive or operate a motor vehicle propelled
by an internal combustion engine if the exhaust outlet of the
muffler has been widened.
(3) A person shall not drive or operate a motor vehicle propelled
by an internal combustion engine if a device is attached to the
exhaust system or the muffler that increases the noise made by the
expulsion of gases from the engine or allows a flame to be ignited
from the exhaust system. |

| It's legal as long as it's past the driver's door. The only thing with putting it out the sides, is it will turn your rims/paint black from the exhaust. |

true, you're going to have a nasty carbon scruzz deposit streaking from the back outwards.... kind of like when rice pipes blacken the bottom of bumpers when there's practically no tailpipe. |

| from what ive heard, any modification to any part of a car is illegal if a cop really wants to pull you over for it. Some can be real asses and some are nicer and just give warnings. |
