License plate not showing up in Cruiser - Click HERE for Original Thread

mx73someday
Last night I was in a parking lot full of street racers (Tim Hortons in Calgary), and these police officers decided to run my dealer plate. I walked over to talk to them and they said that my plate showed up as not registered. So I asked them to confirm the number, but they were off by one digit. But yet again with the correct plate, they said it showed up as not registered.

I know my plate is registered because I picked it up a month ago, with Jan/2005 expiry stickers. What's the deal!? My questions for the local law enforcement are: Is there a huge delay in getting up-to-date plate data in these police cruisers? Is there a good reason why my plate would show up as not registered when it actually is? I am going to go ask the registrar who sold me the plate if they know.

Anyways, the officer told me, "Give me a good excuse not to tow this car". (I love it when a crime isn't really a crime, that an excuse can make everything better) So I told him the name of the registries office and explained how I just got the plate one month prior. Then I was told that I should make a good business example as the president of my corporation (dealer plate), to not solicit to these street racers in the Tim Horton's parking lot. So I offered to leave and drive home, which I did.

He also asked me if the Skyline I had was a Cavalier

Anytime a transaction has been completed at a registries office, the info is uploaded to CPIC (Canadian Police Information Centre) immediately. As you have a dealer plate there will not be any vehicle associated to the plate but the owner information should be there. If there is no information at all then CPIC will come back w/ a message such as "This plate has not been issued". If I get a message like that I immediately seize it & the vehicle it's on. If you run the number on the 2005 sticker (validation tag) it should also give the owner's info. The officer should have also ran the VIN (serial #) of the vehicle you had the plate on to get its info as well.

That's good to hear. I went to the registry on Oct1st to register my other car expired sep/2004 and they said it was already registered. But I don't have an 2005 sticker.

What if you registered for the new year, but forgot/lost the sticker for you plate?

That's one possibility and hope it is correct. I don't pay much attention to that car,now that it isn't used much.
