I thought when photoradar is being used in Alberta they have to post a sign that it is set up. Now is this a law or just a policy or what.
I have yet to see one photoradar site setup that has had a sign.
Now if this is supposed to be the policy or law of photradar usage, and they aren't following it. Isn't every ticket they are giving out void and can be fought in court?
Can anyone clear this up that really knows....not just I think so |

| Do those red light camera's work on the traffic circle on St. Albert Trail north of Westmount? Are cars not permitted to turn right on reds? I've seen lots of cars and buses do that but yesterday I swear i saw a camera flash when someone turned right on the red light onto St. Albert Trail from 118 ave.??:dunno: |

It doesn't have to be a sign saying that photo radar is set up. You will always see signs on a lot of pools with just a camera and some word on it. Just means that at anytime there could be photoradar set up. If you don't want your picture taken don't drive on that road. I think it's some type of privacy law. Kinda like how you cannot be recorded without knowing or if you refuse then you cannot be recorded.
Correct me if I am wrong though.:dunno: |

| Roads, such as Whitemud Drive, have the signs actually installed on the odd light post...which satisfies the provincial requirement for advance warning. If they're on a side-street, such as in a school zone, you will see a sign somewhere. |

I made a note to look today and I have seen 3 photo radar vans out and no sign anywhere near them....1 was on St. Albert Trail, one was on 170st. in edmonton and the 3rd was in St. Albert on a side road. And none of them had a sign posted anywhere.
Can a person look up on the net what the regulations are for photo radar usage? |

| There are signs posted on St. Albert Trail and 170 Steet that show the camera and Photo Enforced text. |

The province post guidelines for useage; that's why you see signs up at the older, frequently used photo radar sites.
My opinion is that people got conditioned to slow for the usual target area and sped up everywhere else. In order to compensate for the drop in tickets in target areas the photo vans have taken to roaming outside the signed areas. |

| Does anyone know how the actual policy on photoradar reads or where I can get a copy of it? |

| I am almost betting that you got a photoradar ticket and you want to fight it by saying that there was no signage up in the area where you recieved it. hehe. Not that I really care how you go bout it just thought it might be a reason for asking :D |

I'd be willing to bet that they could argue that the signage posted as you enter the city that states that speed enforced with photo radar is sufficient warning to cover the whole city. :p |

they write that so vague that it allows them to pretty much put photo radar anywhere they want and not have signs. |

For the most part, that's been the EPS' stance on the warning signs.
If you CAN'T see the photo van, what makes you think you'll be react to a small little sign??? Sheesh...some people will use any excuse they can! :dunno: |
