Yeah, man. That is hot-lookin'!
I sure would like to find out more about that car.
Something about that 389 badge on the rad support tells me that is not a stock GTO.

It's the Ram Air 6, built by GM as a show car, (not a production variant) for the Woodward dream cruise in August.
575hp 6.3L. Nice, but not going to happen.
Amazing what a simple widebody job can do for a car.

| i like em but they still cant compete with the original , thats my personal thought |

Like Dave said, that grill ruins the whole car. Without that ugly "look at me, I'm fast but I still look like a Grand Prix" grill it would be an amazing looking car. But when you're looking at the car from the front, it's always the first thing you see, and I personally can't get past it.

I like it. But the old school Pontiac exhaust tips make me want to puke.

Don't forget the rest of the CRAPOLA GM parts hiding beneath the skin too (except the engine). |

your gto was based from our monaro, well the 'new monaro' as it too was a remake of australias most famous muscle car
the pic above shows the front grille on the aussie monaros, personally i think its a lot better suited to the car |
|
|
| Mavrick |
your Manaro was built by a GM-owned and inspired factory, based on the popularity and desire for the importation of Monte Carlos and Camaros, and the want of rear-drive and V8 power on the dry roads of Australia. Your Diablo (not the Lamborghini) was based on the El-Camino and almost managed to make another appearance in North America, but didn't raise enough interest.
The GTO is a great car, but I think it will still have a great challenge to succeed here, as it is almost as expensive as a Corvette, and hasn't had a following in more than 30 years. Sure, it still stands out as one of the great muscle cars of the 60's, but what does that have to do with the modern car, besides the name? Ford has lost three major trademark names in the last ten years from not using them within the time limit, and I think GM is using GTO again just so that they don't lose it.
I'm glad they decided to introduce it here, though. It's a great prelude to the return of the F-body. Ford better get kicking it up a notch right away, cuz DC is already on the bandwagon with their gameplan. I can't wait to see what they do next.

yea that was the 'old' monaro and how that came about
and holden is owned by gmc
i was pointing out that the new pontiac gto was based off our new monaro, which is all australian built, the only part that was american was the gen 3 chev engine - which the australian holden has given it the tag of the ls1 |
|
|

GM gave it the tag of LS1 across the board, not just Holden.
Anyway, I wish Lutz had the patience to wait until Pontiac had a chance to make their own body panels, though it probably would have been more expensive still. Now we've got a Holden with a Pontiac moniker that looks just like a Holden with a Pontiac moniker. Anyway, like I've said before, somewhere around here, Holden is doing a redesign very soon, so Pontiac should have a chance to make it a real Goat, at least on the outside.
(oh, and it's GM, GMC is the truck division)
It's cool to hear it from one who has seen the car in action for years though. :) It's interesting how Austrailia could swing RWD cars when the US was switching nearly everything to FWD. The same can be said about the Aussie's liberal use of V8's over the last few decades, when they were only found in high dolar Sports cars and trucks over here. |

ahh yeh my bad. im kinda disappointed that pontiac took the body from the aussie monaro. ive always had a soft spot for the older gto's and it was frustrating seeing them bring out the new one, only to notice that it is in fact the monaro. although due to our emission laws im pretty sure u got a beefier engine package in the gto plus a few extra options, but im hoping holden will do something about that in the next model
yeah with the v8s over here pretty much every make of car has had a v8 in their line up. ford and holden are the main two though - same kinda rivalry as ford and chev over there?
its absed on the fact that we have a series of motorsport called the v8 supercars - where the only cars that are raced are holden and ford v8s. it would be the primary motorsport competition in the country and thats really where the ford vs holden came about. so ford and holden have pretty much always had their v8s in production to let the average joe think they have their chance at being the next mark skaife of the v8 world |
|

| Mavrick |
Cheers to the Land Down Under for keeping V8s in their hearts, and on their roads!
I'll trade you a V8 F-body for some sunshine and warm weather, and maybe a hot aussie beach-girl.
brrrrr!!!! damn snow!!!

So, is that where the Tickford Falcon comes from, and the V8 Escort? Oh, and we need a few Utes over here. Those things are awesome. I'm liking the Holden one based on the Monaro, (I think. It's been a while since I've been to the site).
V8 Supercars sounds just like NASCAR, except when I've seen it on TV it's always a road course. NASCAR is almost always left turn ovals, with the occasional road course, where they are constantly in the wall. |

Yeah the V8 Supercars are always on road courses. Just expanded into China this year - holy shit can you say almost fully grandstand road track?
Our biggest race is at Bathurst, its always good there as the track is kinda out bush and its around a mountain so its impossible to completely fence off the whole track. This year one of the cars hit a kangaroo that made its way onto the track. there are videos of it floating around the net but it always makes for good viewing |
