All the more time to post shit!! ;)
Talk about anything, we have our local forum, let's get a local take on parts, future mods (I realize some shit is top secret), wheels, new CT27 :D , anything......
I realize there are like 10 (if that) of us here, but this forum goes for days without anything new popping up.
P.S. I don't want this to be about spending money on parts, 'cause it's NOT. I hope I'm not coming across as that's all I'm about, cause I'm NOT. |

Sounds nice Matt.
Sunil i believe is either going with a ct20 or a street brawler kit.
Next winter, or whenever i have money, maybe this summer.
I plan on getting a Street Brawler kit or a GT35R turbo. |

| Cool, what kind of power output are we talking about here? You'll probably have a new member of your club next year too, I was talking to my buddy Nick and he said he was picking up a 91 Turbo MR2 in May and hes gonna do it up, so I referred him to you guys. Later. |

Sounds cool.
Me personally i want atleast 300 RWHP, by next season, say August.
I dont see it being hard as with just boost i should be running about 250-265 RWHP. But who knows, all if money suffices.
With the upgraded turbo, that will be another issue, as i will have to get a Hydra Nemesis standalone and all the bells and whistles. |
|
|
| blown_mr2 |
The CT20 is the stock turbo used on the Gen III 3SGTE. Some have made 300 to the wheels with this turbo, but it's maxed the fcuk out in that range.
The CT27 is a CT26 upgrade from ATS Racing. It's a direct bolt on, but a relatively new turbo and the jury is still out on that. It's been dynoed to make 300 with supporting mods and a 3" Aussie Racing downpipe (nice DP BTW!! :D )
The KO Racing Street Brawler is a the king of the 3 mentioned. It's a whole upgrade kit ( T3/T4 turbo, 3" downpipe, oil lines, etc. ) As far as I know, this kit can make 300 RWHP in it's sleep. I think 300 RWHP was achieved at about 20 psi?
Someone add to this or correct me if I'm wrong.
Most likely, I'll try to source out a CT20 for under $800 USD and work with that for now. Rob is running this turbo and his ride pulls amazingly hard. I think he's far from reaching the limits of it either. |
|
|
| stealth |
the ct20 can easily run 300 RWHP.
Yes the SB Kit, is one of the best kits.
I also hear rave reviews regarding the GT35R Setup.
There is a MKI here in the city with a Gen II 3SGTE running that turbo, and easily at 19 PSI he put down 315RWHP. Ill get the site soon. |

Where did you read this? It can't "easily" make 300 the the wheels. It's maxed out in that range. Why would people even bother upgrading to a Street Brawler or other upgades, if a stock CT20 could "easily" achieve 300? |
|
|
| stealth |
Correction it was the gt30 turbo he was running and ran 316 RWHP at 19 psi on pump gas

Many say tuning is the key.
If u look on the boards, many people have gotten their ct20 into the 300rwhp easily, but yes it is maxed out there, gaining more horsepower is the hard part.
BTW the guys site.

Edit NVM all of those pushing 300rwhp were on a Gen III Engine:( |

Matt, I gotta take you for a ride in the Deuce next year. The stock handling is absolutely amazing!!! I know you've heard they "handle like go karts", but this is not just a cliche with the MR2.
I'm lowered on Eibach Sportlines and Koni Yellows and it's just a blast to drive this car. Rob is also on the same setup (more suspension toys than me I think though), so hitch a ride with him or me, or JP, or Wesam :D , next year see how they handle. |
|
|
| stealth |
Matt i finished installign my suspension at 4am one night.
I took my car for a ride while halusinating, and man was it a blast.
It handles like a damn go kart seriously! Just have to watch out for the back end getting loose.
Ill take u for a ride next season also.
BTW ya the 300 rwhp was on the gen III engine with stock ct20. Forgot it was on a dif engine. |

I feel your pain man.. i couldn't even imagine driving my 2 in the winter.. I cringe when driving my civic.. driving over high- packed ice on the road that scrapes everything underneath my car.. as well as sand and gravel hitting my car from someone else either driving in front of me or trying to pass :( |
|
|
| 95IntegraRS |
I know they have good handling, and I don't doubt your claims because I have driven an MR2 Turbo before and they are definately one of the better handling cars I've driven. But I also know they have the tendency to swing the ass end, good for drifting but not the best technique to be using on say a road course or for power out of turns, just wondering how you guys cope with that? I know my biggest problem was the understeer, so I upgrade the swaybar and tie rods, threw on a rear and front strut bar combination and that should pretty much eliminate my problem.
But yea, you gotta take me for a ride in your car Sam. I wanna feel how hard it pulls, should be interesting with that JDM engine man. |
|
|
| stealth |
Ya man.
And honestly the way we overcome the oversteer is to give it more gas, as when u are deaccelerating/breaking that is when it starts to slide out.
BTW if the mr2 is a total different car when lowered :D |
|
|
| RDS Celica |
holy shit this thread is just blowing up... we must be breaking all kinds of records for this board ;) :D
ill throw in my 2 cents on some of this stuff :
ct20b : "easy" is a relative term, what is easy to some may be almost in possible to others... anyways, a ct20b can "easily" make 300 rwhp depending on many things (supporting mods, engine condition, and TUNING!). In some vehichle cases tuning can be the difference between 30hp or more. Something so insignifcant as a degree of timing or when your injector cycle kicks in can mean all the difference in the world.
anyways, in my case I hope to be around the 300 mark after I get everything back together over the winter. Im actually hoping for a little bit more over that mark since the way I went with the turbo setup is more designed for the high end power. I've seen it done so I dont see a reason why I wouldnt be able to acheive similar numbers :) I seem to have picked up a few gremlins in the last part of the summer so Im hoping they will get worked out again come spring too.
Martin's MK1.5 : This car is quick... very quick. However, he just can't seem to put the power to the ground in terms of 1/4 times. Nevertheless, his car is still a little rocket and has possibly the cleanest installed 3s swap into an aw11 that I have ever seen.
Unfortunately, im not too sure of what has become of his car or Martin to be honest. His car was sitting in an impound lot, beat up with the wing missing and I havent heard from him since BC.
MR2 Handling : Sam, you pretty much summed it up... When you star to slide you can either give it more gas and "power out" of the loss of traction, or else let off the throttle all together (which is NOT the wise choice if you are really driving the car under intense conditions.) If you let of the throttle, the car will SNAP back the other way and want to throw you into the opposite curb (assuming you really have no control whatsoever over the vehichle :) ). that is the "snap oversteer" thats associated with mid engine cars and the mr2.
Sunil, im on the exact same setup as you buddy, and it handles just awesome :D BTW I will have to find out where you got those spacers for the struts from, Im gonna have to put some in over the winter too.
as far as drifting goes, MR2s are not the ideal choice for drift due to the characteristics and "feel" of the handling. It does not react nearly the same as say, an 8-6, RX7, or 240 and it takes alot more skill to drift successfully. It is not impossible by any means, tamagotchi (or whatever the guys name is who always wears the pimpin green nomex suit) does a very good job demonstrating the drifting capabilities of the sw20 in best motoring's drift bible...even tho I have no idea what is being said haha |
|
|
| RDS Celica |
CONTINUED :
I have messed around with my old set of proxes a few occassions and I feel the techinique is to brake just before going into teh corner to force the car to slide out, as it is sliding out get on teh gas to steady teh car and bring it back... the downside to this technique is that if you fuck up, say goodbye to your mr2 and hello to that wall your about to hit :)
another way is to get the car sliding by using straight power and as it nears the point of which the car wants to spin, use the brake to momentarily straighten the car out before getting back on the gas to position the car on a new course and maintain the slide. this all has to be done very quickly but when done right it works very well... ive scared a few soccer moms and old people enough to know :) heheheh
i would really like to learn higher speed drifts, but I think that just just has trouble written all over it... i dont really like doing bodywork :) Once I get a new tranny and my skills progress, I may experiment some more tho ;) in the proper enviornment of course
JP : civic nation  haha
Hope you guys enjoy reading my essay, it wouldnt even fit on only one post hahaha. you cant say i never post now :p hehe |

Holy shit!! That one post is enough for the whole Winter, I think!! :D We'll lay off your ass for abit.
Your knowledge of these cars is impressive Rob, thanks for letting us pick your brains for ideas / feedback.
BTW: those spacers for the strut can OEM. Have no idea as to cost though. One of them we rigged up is holding up great, the other not so good. :D I'll just purchase 2 from Toyota whenever.
Is the suspension install still under warranty?:D Haha, might need to use your compressor to take the gland? nut off to install the spacers. |
|
|
| stealth |
See i knew it was not really hard to get 300RWHP, just didnt wanna start a flame war proviing back and forth, i was just told tuning was the most troublesome part.
Yes a mr2 is hard to drift in
O and ya rob those spacers are OEM, they came on my car, and i have very very minimal strut knock, the trick on sunils ride is we need a air compressor to spin it on fast enough without spinning the strut. |
|
|
| RDS Celica |
Sunil, im always happy to lend some knowledge and a hand so its all good
OEM hey? ill have to grab a couple from toyota the next time im there. thanks for the info.
ya of course its under warranty haha. The next time you are over we can just throw it on, shouldnt be that big of a deal. :) Im assumming this probably wont happen for awhile tho :( fuck edmonton haha
ya its hard to get a handle on the strut cartridge when tightening it, I think you can get a handle on it with some 45 degree pliers or even a pipe wrench. I dunno, im sure something can work. :D |
