| I was caught speeding 94km/h in a 70km/h zone... i dont believe i was speeding by that much but thats another story... Do i have to tell this to my insurance agent? or will they find out anyways? and does anyone know how much this will hike up my insurance if they find out? |

You've netted a 3-demerit ticket, and providing it's your only one, you should still be fine. Your insurance company can view your driving record for three years (despite the fact that the demerits only stay on for two years) and they will typically do so prior to each renewal.
Stay good for the next 36 months and you should be fine. |

| lol, wise ass :) i went 170km/h once, legally of course :) And thanks MX5 Miata Guy. If i was only going, say 10-15km/h over how many demerits would that be? |

| also, does the RCMP guy that pulled me over have to prove to me in any way that i was actually going that fast? Someone told me they had to show me the radar gun for proof?!? |

They will provide proof at the trial if it goes that far. |

1-10km/h over the limit = 2 demerits
11-30km/h over the limit = 3 demeits |

Recent calibration test on the unit. What do you have that would dispute that...your speedo gauge...something else by the seat of your pants? :dunno: |

Maybe in his head he was measuring the distance between two objects, then determining how long it took him to go from the first object to the second, then converting it all the km/h?
After all, it's easy enough to do on the fly in your car right? |

| actually i believe i was in a 80 km/h zone, not a 70 zone... i was about 1.5 km from the 70 km/h zone and almost in a 100 km/h zone by the time he pulled me over. Hense my demerit question. |

Ah, but the answer lies in where was he in relation to you. If he was lying in wait in the 70km/h zone, no matter where you got pulled over, that's where the ticket applies.
The 70km/h zone would remain in effect until you reach another sign, or change off that road and onto an unsigned roadway. Then it would either be 50km/h (urban) or 80km/h (rural). |
