Mines nothing spectacular, but:

I bought another Honda Prelude SR-V after I totalled my first one. I really loved the first one, so I figured I'd mod another. After maybe 2 months of owning the second Lude (and thousand's of dollars of wasted money spent on parts that were never installed - was waiting till Spring), I thought, WTF am I doing with this Prelude? It just wasn't fun to drive anymore, I needed a new direction - enter the MR2. :D

So after I sold the lude, and finally sold all the parts (just sold the GReddy header about a month and a half ago actually :D ), it was time to go MR2 hunting!!

It was around March of this year, I believe, that I started seriously looking for a 2. There was literally one available at the time!! -At Daewoo West!!

So, I went there, checked her out (second time I sat in a 2) and fell in love. We test drove her, but I couldn't boost because of the bad roads at the time. Left a deposit and 2 days later, the salesguy delivered her to my crib. I have NO patience at all!! lol

Looking back, I know I got raped on the price, as I could easily have landed another one for much less, but I don't care.

I was and still am in love!!

:D

Was looking for a car at the age of 15, sunil suggested a few cars, which included a MR2. Looked at some pictures, fell in love.

Kept looking, couldnt find any that interested me. except for XayLoco's mr2, but the cheap price, body kit, and extra engine, scared me so i didnt bother calling.

Integra was my second choice, found one, and bought it for my first car. Loved it for the first while, but as soon as decemeber hit, i started getting sick of it. I believe it was because i found it hard to modd? I think prices were expensive, and i had things go bad on the integra.

Winter is starting to go away in march, then i got serious about selling my car and getting a mr2, put the integra up for sale, lost some money on it, but sold it at the end of march.

Started looking for a MR2, and started bussing it around lol.

Kept looking in BC, until i found one mr2 in edmonton.

Sunil and i went and checked it out.

Took me 4 days to bargain with the guy.

Now its in my garage, and been happy ever since.

good stories guys

here's mine =>
well where do i start..
always had a fasincation with toyota's since I could remember..
always loved the Supra (all gens) and the 94-99 gen Celica's .. I remember working at my godparents convenience store as a kid and was in love with this one guy's white celica (94-99) who always came in

anyways I never knew off the MR2 until this girl I used to date owned a green N/A MKII ... it was actually the first car I learnt standard on.. and yes I bagged it pretty good learning how...
 ..

it was not until a friend of mine Calvin (SEKS here on 780) owned a Black MKII turbo where I fell in love with one...
we chilled alot back in the day and we're always out and about in the deuce.. at that time there we're only a few handful of people in the city that owned a Second Gen.. I loved the attention the car got at the time as if we we're driving some crazy exotic.. as well as the performance and the layout of the car.. midengined, two seater, rear wheel drive... I remember especially taking the t-tops off and the sound of the Blitz BOV everytime he shifted. . it was not until than I decided once I saved up enough money I would own one..

it was probably not until 2 years later after my experience with Calvin's car that I ended up selling my 95 Tercel and start my MR2 shopping.. found one in Saskatchewan with excellent mileage for it's year. it was a red 91 MR2 with some mods such as a turbo timer, Electronic AVCR and some plain jane aftermarket deck. ...
the paint was pretty oxidized and it had some guard protectors all over the car.. especially on the bumper where it looked like it had tits.. and a few sticker on the glass..

at first I was just going to leave it stock but that surely changed...
mod after mod start happening .. I was addicted..
it's been over 3 years since i'ved owned her and have never been happier....

i coudlnt add more as i had to run to school.

but when i first drove my mr2, taking it for a test drive, it was so damn awesome, people looking at me, and the handling without power steering:bthumbup:

ND4SPD
I was just driving a '79 Mitsubishi Lancer back then in P.I. when I first saw this on my friend's b-day party (Yellow MK1 -dunno if SC/not)...it was in 1995.

I said to myself, I will get that soon. It was an exotic and couldn't believe it was made by Toyota. It was a little car that looked like a Ferrari and GO-KART on steriods.

When I got here....I got an '86 Celica, 94 Corolla...but it wasn't like riding on an MK1 :D....so I was in the hunt for an MK1 ...I got my wish (N/A) though its rusted on the wheel wells (for an '85, I can't complain), it drives like a beauty.

I went crazy with missing parts, as I tried to convert it to an SC look (even imported MK3 wheels from US), with plans of dropping a 3SGTE later on (later found out that '85 & '89 have some similarities on suspension handling).

Then I met JP (fellow kabayan...which has roots in P.I.), which was driving an MKII. I went to their meet only to find out, I'm the only one that drives a rust bucket. :D

I started saving hard earned $$$...to restore my MK1 to its original state.....I wouldn't even dream to afford JP's hardcore paint job.

JP even introduced me to Van....but my jaw dropped when I found out the cost.....it was this time that I kinda thinking of selling it and look for an SC (got close of getting an SC with 50,000+ KMS in Calgary, but was short of $$$ )

All of a sudden, JP's selling his leather seats! I said WoW...its good to have it on my MK1. I bought his seats...

Then an MKII N/A came in my way...no rust, few dings...I called JP..he test drive it...and said it was a good buy (I trusted JP on this). But I won't be able to buy this w/o selling the MK1...it was at this point I said, if the MKII won't be sold after the MK1 is sold...I'll buy it..

Out of the blue, a nice guy came in to see my MK1...test drive it...it got sold that night. (I had a heavy heart that night...:drama: ). I still miss driving my GO-KART.

It was a long month after I got the MKII 'coz some paperworks have to be fixed by the seller (he's NICE!!! Hope I strike lotto so I can buy the car he's selling :D)

The seller even drove it to my house  ...Thanks, MAN!

The MKII now is sleeping....but got a few drops of oil leak (ARRGHH!!)...it happens to me when fall-winter season comes

Whew...its a long story...but at least, Im not driving a rust bucket anymore....thanks to JP (if not for his MKII leather seats - that started it all) and I got bitten by a bug - an MKII bug.

RDS Celica
well, here is my story...

I had a 5th gen celica and after putting n20 on it, I was still disspointed with its sluggish performance. Then I started looking into swaping the 3sgte into it as well as doing the entire 5spd conversion and everything else that went into it. As it turns out, I didnt even know they made a 2nd gen mr2...I thought the only ones were the boxy mk1s :). After researching the 3s swap and discovering what an amazing car the sw20, I decided hell I might as well just buy the engine already in the car and then began to save my cash and start looking for an mkII in good shape...

Well, needless to say that mr2 in good shape didnt come around for another year and a half (mabey more)... I looked at quite a few over that period of time but they were all beat to shit or had some stories to go along with them. I actually looked at Sunil's car when it was at daewoo and offered the old guy 16g CASH for it but he just said no... at this point the car had been there for like a year so I thought he was an idiot for not taking it haha. Shortly after that, I was just so fed up with trying to find an mr2 and all the cash was burning a hole in my pocket, plus I was just itching to start a new project and so sick of my riced-out celica  I told myself that if I didnt find one within the next 2 weeks I was just going to buy a del sol and turbo it since I had always kinda wanted one.

Well, lucky for me (because if I bought a del sol I would be kicking my own ass!! even tho it would probably be a mint del sol hehe:D ) about a week later I picked up the new autotrader and there it was. Yellow, reasonably low km, bone ass stock, leather, turbo... It was just what I was looking for (well actually I REALLY wanted a black or white mr2 but yellow grew on me eventually) so I called the guy up and I drove to calgary the very next day with cash and a bank draft. I didnt even see the car yet but I just knew that it was the one... to sweeten the deal it was even the original owners and the only reason they got the turbo in the first place was because it came with leather and A/C

I drove the car and I was sold on it... paid the guy and drove home with the biggest smile on my face and I dont think it has gone away since :D

Then I finally sold the celica and dumped all my money into the duece... Some say its a bad investment but I dont think you can put a price on fun. I have the rest of my life to gain more and make more money so why not live it up on the way there... deep hey?  :)

btw good idea for a thread, its fun hearing the stories.

p.p.s Felix, I have a turbo exhaust if you want it. You will have to get it welded on since what should be the b-pipe has been cut. Ill let it go for like 40 bucks if you want it.

XayLoco
Well, like many of you I'm sure, it was love at first sight. A friend of mine knew someone with a Black MKII and i was like WHOA!! what the hell is that!? When I saw that it was a Toyota, my legs went numb, primarily because my family has and always will be a Toyota family. I swore to buy nothing but the best kind of car(Toyota of course) and when I found out that Toyota made this, I dreamed of having one. I thought to myself that these things would cost a pretty penny.....actually many thousands of pretty pennies, but someday I would have one. I searched around for close to three years, to no avail. I barely saw them on the road. But then one finally came up. It was in Calgary, and came with a 3SGTE and a replica wide body kit. I was Blown away, but like Sam said earlier, it was a little suspicious, and being in Calgary, I almost passed it up.

Then I slapped myself and was thinking.....Am I crazy?! This may never come up again!! And I knew that I'd be stupid to not at least look at it before passing it up. So me and a couple of buddies drove to Calgary, with some money, just in case! Then, there it was.....:tear: ....sorry guys, I get a little emotional thinkining about it! Like I said, Love at first sight. As soon as I turned onto this road, I recognized it from like 3 blocks away. A 91 Yellow MKII. I had nothing to say. I had to have it. I pretty much just sat in it and gave the guy the check. It drove well and I was in heaven. Had So much fun driving it back to ETown.

I later made arrangements to have to engine sent to Edmonton, and was a decent engine, but it was an ALLTRAC 3SGTE, and since then, have been dropping a whole wack of money in it. But All worth it. So yeah, that's how my story goes. Unfortunately my car is not ready yet, cause of many missing parts that I've been treasure hunting for, but hopefully, there'll be another Yellow MR2 at the meets next year!!! Sorry for the Long story, but it's put a nice grin on my face!!

XayLoco
Oh yeah, And if many of you are wondering what happened to the Wide body kit, I didn't take it. I know, I know.....I should have taken it since it was free, but there were several reasons why I didn't take it. First off, I wasn't looking towards a wide body kit. Too intense for me. I actually have a full Border kit waiting to be put on right now. And a big ol snorkel, which I'm sure a lot of you aren't fond of, but hey, It was something that drew me to this car in the first place. (Thanks JP!! lol) And secondly, cause I have no place to store it, and don't want the hassle of selling it. I don't know how many of you would want the wide body kit, but there's only a select number of people I coulda sold it too. But yeah, If you do want the wide body kit, Chris( Tsuanmi, I think) did buy it and was trying to sell it with his N/A a while ago, Don't know the verdict of if it's sold yet, but try PM'ing him if your interested!!

stealth
Yea i was kinda skeptical when i saw it because it was for sale for such a long time.

More indepth:

Right when i turned 16, i thought about going to look at it, but didnt have the determination like you to look at it. Then came the integra my 2nd choice.

MR2 being my first choice i still wanted it.

And like i stated i put the car for sale.

Found a black mr2 in bc with a ferarri kit, written off though. SO i didnt get it.

Kept looking.

Then EK9MAX emailed me a link to a MR2 for sale. I was like yes! IT was black high mileage but it was lady driven for 13.5 Years of its 14 years.

I seen it posted before but thought it was kinda overpriced. But he insisted i call the guy.

Guy was asking 13 000.

My car was potentially sold. Just had to wait for the guy to get the loan.

Called the guy.

Went and looked at it with Sunil.

Couldnt find the guy where to meet.

Then after 30 mins found him.

First thing sunil said was "Man look at the paint on that car, it looks so damn nice!"

Test drove it.

Low balled him.

Kept bussing.

Worked shit out. Took me a week. Finally bought it.

Had to go pick it up.

Sunil said he would drive me. He was installing his intake, which took forever for me.

Went and gave the guy the cash. He called me a bastard lol.

Was scared to get my car out of the parallel parking cause of the no p/s.

Sunil and i had a little fun driving back home!

BTW my car was lady driven by a wealthy lady for 13.5 years of its life. This guy bought it and was moving to europ or someshit, so sold it to me.

I have all records, even the certificate of when the lady first bought it.

Well it all started about 4 years ago my friend bobby aka mrprecida on the board We went over to his friends house to look at mr2 and I was like ahh those cars are sweet etc.. So the next following year I look around for an mr2 high and low looked at alot but the first one I seen was so mint and rust free and was just overal and clean car... So after that year I keep looking and my buddy bobby told the guy who had the mr2 to look out for an mr2 for myself so he finds me one but it was a BC car which had a 20V engine in it but caught on fire never did I know that the motor was not stock lol :) So I go look at it and say ummm no not for me and ask him if he would sell his car to me he laughed and said no a couple of weeks later he phones me back and ask if i am still inteserted in his black clean mk1 I was like hell ya so I offered him a good price he wanted higher but we got a price and the deuce that I am driving now is the one I picked up from the guy... I was so happy to get it and never do regret spending so much money on buying it I love the car and the way it handles... A little twist to it so the guy I bought the car off of dropped by my place this year cause his girlfriend lives by me... We started talking again and he was glad that he sold the car to me and what not but then he offered me a price for it that was about 2,000 dollars more than I payed for it and I turned him down he was alittle mad not to have his car back but I told him if I ever do sell the car I would only sell it to him cause he took such good care of it and so did I... He told me he thought I would just go smash the car up and write it off... but he is glad that is in good hands so ya that is my story on my Mr2 on another note I bought a winter beater/comm.car 1992 sundance 132,000km for 1800 not to bad imo w00t w00t! :blue:

eeebowlahhh
My first taste of a MR2 was around x-mas of last year with a white JDM MR2... since then.. i knew i wanted one, and knew it wouldnt be long before i did.

well theres not alot to my story, my first car was the JDM crx, and it was fun and all just not sporty enough and either fast enough for my likeing.. so after a few grand in rice upgrades and a lil performance i sold it off for less then i paid.. :(

and then began the search for a new JDM... i've seen the MR2's around the city and thought they were very sporty and sleek.. so i thought i would have a look at a few not knowing what i was in for... 2 months of looking for the right car, right specs... and right price.. and i found my 2. another month goes by and it's sitting in my drive way.. looking at me.. and me returing the favour :)... but like anyone else when you get a new toy and you wanna play.. but poor me.. the clutch was shot so of course i could not step on it and feel what the car can really do.. but none the less i loved it!, 2 months of waitting a hell of a long time for a clutch install and i was all set... after a 1k brake in, i was ready to see what it's got(this being the 1st turbo i drove) well lets just say the 220hp/225ft/lb didnt let me down... pulled back into the seat a bit.. and i was gone.. and fell even more in love with it.. and to do this day i usally look at it for a few mins every day..

Well my story isn't that great. I was a HUGE honda fan. I mean MASSIVE. I had a yellwo crx iwth b16a, and every single bolt on I coudl find. taht thing was alright. Wanted somethign newer thouhg.

Bought a 97 civic hatch. Dumped about $18000 into that. Got teh dopest jdm parts out there. JDM integra type r motor, JDM ITR 5 lug conversion. Everything. But all tha tmoney, and such aslow car.

I was jaded on teh whoel improt tuning scene. I was OUT. I actually had money down on a 325i BMW. Thank go that deal fell through.

I actually started thinkign about an mr2 when I Was watching a BMW video. IT had a sweet mr2 on it. Then I checked to see how much these were. Saw one for $10k in etown. Thought they were all that cheap. shopped for about a month then I found the one in vancouver.

Bussed out there 14 hours to get it. And when I got it, it ran like a bag of shit. I was going to kill the guy, for makign me go out there and it running so bad. I low balled him, and was really mad, and he took it. Drove it home to find it waqs just teh wires, and once I replaced them the car ran like a dream.

I have since sold the car. but in march I will be receivng my JDM mr2. I got like $5000 in parts lyin gin my basement waiting for a car to be put on!

For the new guys!!

mitsubitchy
I dont really have a story behind my MR2 purchase, well I guess a small one. It was about last year when i started my infatuation with cars, i would look on the internet for cars almost everyday. Well I only started to work last year and im 20 by the way so I kinda started late for working as i kinda concentrated on school for awhile but now I figured to find a way to sneak a part time job in. Well anyways I was really looking at 3000gt VR4's or 94-99 celicas (not fast but i like the styling). After finding out that the 3000gt vr4 had tranny porblems and shit i decided to back out on that pig, as for the 94-99 celica well they werent the easiest to find as there are practically none in edmonton for sale when i look so i never did find one to buy, although I probably would have bought one if there was one available.

It was just about 4 months ago that I decided to look at JDM cars and I never even considered the MR2 ever because I knew it was kinda costly (MR2's here are like 12+ grand) and its a 2 seater as I originally wanted 4 seater. The MR2 is also pretty much a summer car also and thats not what I wanted either.

I started to do some research on the JDM MR2 for shits as I had nothing better to do. After seeing their potential and everything and of course the styling I became in love with this car. Like I love how this car is low and ferrari type styling and everything. So pretty much saw an MR2 for sale and picked that up right away. Now there is pretty much no car for me that equals to an MR2, except the NSX of course. I never regretted my purchase even though its just a summer car and plan to keep this baby for a quite awhile as this thing is turning into a collectors item. I always loved the fact that the MR2 is also rare here in edmonton so thats a plus.
