With winter being the darkest season, I end up doing a lot of driving in areas with poor to no street lighting. So I was thinking that it might be best to upgrade my headlights.
They take a 9007 bulb - and I see there's a tonne of different options (Even Ebay has a tonne of hits).
Is there a way to get a bulb that will give me more visable area than my stock ones while not blinding the other driver coming at me?
And the bulb has to be street legal - so it has to be white.
Is there such a thing, or are the bulbs that give you more visability just higher wattage? |

I was hoping just a bulb upgrade (Rather than converting to HIDs) as it is a winter beater. |

Eurolite has a bright-white bulb Xenon replacement that I like.
I paid about $30 two years ago to get a set of these:

They have a slight blue tinge to look at them from an angle, but the light they produce forward is bright white.
They're only 35 watts or so, so they're not too hard on the oncoming cars, but they are still bright enough that I rarely ever need to use my high beams.

| I have a set of PIAA's in my car. Cost almost $120 with tax. They are not the blue ones. The bulb is actually a purple colour but it put out a nice bright white light. I bought them at JB's. However both wore out on me before a year not sure why but JB's replaced them for free. And they also don't blind the drivers ahead of you. I don't think in my opinion. I have a pic on my digital camera I will try and post it tommorow so you see them. Hope that helps. |

| Thanks for the help guys - I'm glad that we're all onboard with not blinding other drivers. |

| Silverstars. Much better than regular halogens and won't blind oncoming drivers unless your headlight alignment is fubar'd. |

Silverstar
Have them in my 300ZXTT and the GF's POS Sunfire. HUUUUUGE improvement.
Rice is using those stupid COOL blues or the equivilent. Blue light is a longer wavelenth, so the energy dissapates faster. End result? You see LESS! |

Eurolites are definately RICER bulbs... and cheaply made. Avoid.
And 35w is not adequate to see well enough, especially not when using a tinted bulb like the eurolites. |

Haha! I have RICER bulbs in my pickup-truck. Am I a rice-neck? lol.
Actually, for a 35 watt bulb, they are quite bright. Much brighter than the stock halogens were. The blue tint strip is on the bottom portion of the bulb, which puts a very light tinge (hardly even noticeable) to the lens covers, but the beam is indeed white. To look at them head-on, you'd be hard-pressed to see any blue at all.
They might be cheap bulbs, but I haven't had to replace them yet. Works for me.

| My buddy at work has had his Silverstars in for 2 years without them burning out, and they don't look "ricey" really, they look almost stock, just brighter and whiter. We went through 3 Eurolite Xenon bulbs in just 4-5 months in my fiancee's Mazda before we decided never to buy them again. (JB's gave us cost on the second set because they burnt out so quickly, but we went through 3 bulbs in way too little time) |

Agreed with all the Silverstar fans. I just picked up a set at Canadian Tire for $55. They have a ton of them on the shelves.
I'd been meaning to pick some up for a while now, and I saw them on the shelves and thought what the hell.
Amazing difference. The highbeams are the most noticable. Just incredible. I should have bought these the day I bought the car. I didn't think a different set of bulbs could make such a difference.
And yesterday I rewired my for lights to stay on with the high beams, so I get really good ground coverage right in front of the car. I can't wait to do some night driving on the highway. |

i have a pair of these for my highbeams.
there is no blue in these lights at all. they are pure white with a tinge (sp?) of purple/pink in them.
they've lasted for more than 3 years.
