I've had this Mastercraft 1/2" 25-250 ft-lb torque wrench for quite some time now, probably around 3 years. Just recently, I bought another Mastercraft torque wrench, this time it's a 3/8" 30-250 in-lb. I was reading thru the small manual and it said that recalibration is free within 1 yr of purchase. I'd assume that sending this 3/8" away to a few specified places as mentioned in the manual for recalibration would be the same for the 1/2". They would have to charge me to have my 1/2" recalibrated.
Is it worth the cost of shipping and recalibration for the 1/2"? Should I just get a brand new one? I don't supposed there is any shop here that does recalibration is there?
 |

| If you call a NAPA or a parts store that sells tools, they should be able to get you a number for a local tool repair shop that can do that for you in town. I know when one of our tech get theres done by MAC or Snap-on it cost about 100.00 and usally have back in 7 days. |

| Might be better off to just buy another 1/2" one if it's expensive - they're only ~80-90 and you'll get the three year warranty again. |

^^^^
haven't checked, I just got the # for future reference
but I would imagine it to be cheaper than the cost of a new tq wrench :D (<$99.00) |

I called, it's $65 for mine.
New one cost $80 when it goes on sale at Cdn Tire. So what to do? |

Buying new gives you a 3 year warranty - so you gotta buy a new one rather than recalibrate an old one..
In fact, if you're caught in this cycle maybe buy a lower end one if you're gonna replace it every 3 years.... |

meh I'd just recalibrate it
it'll do it's job like when it's new and you can save yourself a few bucks
take the gf/fiance/mrs. out to lunch
unless your wrench is messed up (i.e. handle's falling off) then might as well replace it |

does your old one need a recalibration?
use your new one to tighten something, and then see if your old one clicks while at the same ft lb without moving the nut.
also try it with it a few lbs more and see that it tightens it a bit then. |

My new one is 30-250 inch-lb. My old one is 25-250 ft-lb. So I can't compare. |
