I just bought a winter car ('95 GOLF) a few days ago so decided to see how it does on a roadtrip..anyways..i hit up Banff for some boarding n partyin w/ my gf and on my way home i got this ticket...150km/h in a 110km/h zone near Cochrane...the pig actually ended up being really nice and let me off with some other shit i should of gotten tickets for...but i still want to fight this cuz there was a car in front of me and behind me both rippin' also...the cop admitted he saw the two other guys and they had an equal chance of getting a ticket too..but the reason i think i can get this dropped or reduced is that all 3 cars were pretty close together and i was in the middle..i don't know how he could have hit me with laser..i don't really care about the $264 ticket as much as the 4 demerit impact on my insurance..
Should i contact POINTS?
Do you guys think it will be worth the drive back to the Cochrane courthouse to fight it? any input/suggestions would be much appreciated |

So first off, you're not denying you were going that fast. Nicely stated in public.
Secondly, you didn't receive a ticket for following too close.
Thirdly, from the side of the road, it's quite easy to see three cars driving one behind the other...unless you were riding the bumper of the first car, in which case you could have received a worse ticket than following too close...something like dangerous driving.
So, how do you plan on fighting the speeding ticket?... |

This is an easy one.
You admittingly were travelling 40KM over the speed limit. You even deserved other tickets, but the RCMP guy let you off with just a speeding ticket.
The solution is easy - pay the ticket you got and take responsibility for your actions. You knowingly drove over, and you knew the risks.
Be a man, do the right thing. Unless going that fast caused your balls to shrivel up? |

| No, I didn't get towed but the police officer made sure that I knew that it could be a possibility if I gave him any lip. Haha. And I just called Pointts downtown and talked to John. He hooked me up for 300 bucks, got the ticket dropped to something ridiculous, had to pay another 100 bucks and walked away with no demerits. |

Well now that we're going in depth i should provide some more details..my initial post was vague i know...I wasn't going close to 150km/h..i don't think my lil' 1.8L base-model Golf could even go that fast full of snowboard shit...anyways...
I was in the left lane and an SRT-4 roared passed me and signaled into my lane just as i passed the popo...i didn't even know there was a 3rd car behind me until the cop told me that there was a guy right behind me.

This is another example of me not giving all the details..my bad..but the cruiser was parked in the grass meridian, immediately adjacent to the left lane...it was also pitch black outside...making it next to impossible to distinguish the cars..and my car is black, although that would be irrelevant in court.

If the officer clocked you at 150, I'd say that's a fair bit more accurate than your arguement that your Golf can't go that fast.

| I have been let off for going 140 in a 60 zone before.. What happened to Matt does happen.. Yes they were unhappy with me.. I got a good talking to for a half hour, but it was 4am... they have better things to do then hassle me I guess. Personally I have got my fair share of tickets.. I have a stack of photoradar sheets in my desk and a letter from the police telling me that I should seriously reconsider my driving habbits. I have slowed down a lot.. I am noticing more and more that speeding does not really change the amount of time it takes me to get anywhere.. and driving can be enjoyable even at the speed limit. |

I saw the ticket, and he did get off, plus I was racing him a month or two later (yes I know, smart me) and got pulled over, 130 in a 60, though it was more like 150 in a 60 and I didnt get a compulsory ticket or a suspension, and my registration had expired and I still didn't get my car towed... the ticket got dropped to $150 and 1 demerit I think from $400+, and there was no way I gave the cop a BJ either |
