Hey guys i got a question about speeding tickets....WHAT DO I DO NOW!? i'm a new driver got my licence on May of this year have been driving long before that though.
here is what happened i just left my house with my parent's minivan last night and was going down a straight road and gave it a little more gas it was a 50km/h zone and i didn't even look to see how fast i was going because it didn't seem to much faster anyways i see this honda prelude take the fork in the road you know you go straight or take a right...don't know the correct term but anyway he decides to cut across both lanes and take the other fork in the road and continue with where ever he was going. I thinking to my self what if a cop saw him do that. while i'm stopped at the red this cop car pulls up behind me the kind with no light visable and as the light turns green i take the left and he does too and then turns on his lights (i'm think i'm f*cked! what did I do) so i pull over and he comes up to me and says "pulled you over for speeding" i said "what was i doing?" he replys "99 in a 50 zone" and i didn't know what to say...so i take the ticket and leave. yet he didn't see the prelude do his crazy stunts.
The ticket cost is $342
i have till Jan 20th 05
what going to happen now?:dunno: :(
and what should i do....
does this mean i have to go to court now? i was think i'm a dumbass and i should just pay it but what about the points i get on my licence how many do i get? and does it effect what i pay for insurance. so what happens now and so on.
IF YOU GUYS CAN GIVE ME SOME TIPS THAT WOULD HELP ME ALOT! AND YES I'M A DUMBASS I KNOW
thanks again. |

Your parents minvan!
Send payment to provincial court by said date.
If you don't have the cash show up that day and plead for forgiveness, they might decrease it a bit.. |

you can't tell the differance between 50 and 100... 100 in a 50 zone you need some more practace!
that aside......... if you just got a yellow ticket you do not need to go to court. if its pink you do. it will say on the ticket just read it.
you were very lucky first for not killing anyone, 2nd you were 49 over 50 over is impound, choppy choppy licence, and court... the cop gave you a break im guessing you were more than 50 over
you will get 4 points and a %15 hike in your insurance.
it takes 15 points to lose your licence.
now what did you learn from this... OTHER DRIVERS ARE ALWASE GONA DO STUPID THINGS. DONT STRESS ABOUT IT. YOU NEED TO FOCUS ON THE STUPID THINGS YOUR DOING LIKE 100 IN A 50 ZONE...
pay it no judge will let you off under those circumstances. |

| on a side note most employers that use company trucks want clean records these days so if i were you, i would be mister good driver for the next 3 years. |

Well, first off, you're :owned:
Secondly, perhaps enough :banghead: self-contemplation about this and maybe you'll learn something. :fingersx:
Going balls to the wall in a residential neighbourhood is, in my view, far more dangerous than a similar 50 ove situation on a clear primary highway. Real smart. :thumbsdow
So, pay your ticket (or go to court if it's a mandatory appearance ticket) and drive sensibly for a long time... Be safe, not stupid. |

I agree with everyone posted - if you didn't reallize you were going 99KM/H in a 50KM/H zone, you really need to sit down and determine how you could make such a huge, huge mistake.
Pay the ticket and consider yourself lucky we've got that government regulated insurance that'll make sure you don't get a huge insurance increase.
Hopefully this experience will teach you that perhaps you need to pay more attention to the road - do you realize that you could have killed someone (Since it's a 50KM/H zone, it's most likely around a residential area)? Even if you saw them cross the street, I would guess it would take well over 120 feet of stopping distance in any minivan.
This is serious - really serious. |

After paying the ticket, you are considered guilty and will get the points on your license.
Once you reach 15 within a certain timeframe (3 years isn't it?) you will get your license suspended. |

Be happy!
If you were one KM over you'd have a nice 1 month suspension, plus double your ticket (750 I think?). |

I was about to say the same thing.
Thank your lucky stars that he didn't say "100 in a 50 zone". Had he said that, you would be in a world of hurt much greater than you are now.
My advice would be to not go to court and fight it, or go to Points and have them fight it, but to pay the ticket like a man. It sucks now, but in the long run, you'll be a better person and driver for it. |

Under government insurance here, defensive driving school can give you a deduction in your rates yes. |
