Just seeing if there is enough to get our own forum and club.
Also, anyone know if Reg would be interested in joining? :) |

I'm always interested in joining new Nissan clubs, as there is no real Nissan group here in Edmonton - except the Z guys.

You have a Datsun 510?
I know a guy who used to own a 510 with a DET stuffed in it, he sold it and the new owner wrecked it :( what a shame.
What do you have on your 510? |

Andy, I chatted to Reg and Neil, and they said that that if we start a "respectable club" we can hold the meets there. They said they would have something to do with it. Give me details and I can tell them more, I see them like everyday, so no worries.
I have a whole list of people wanting to join this shit, so let me know.
You know I'm game.
PEACE

Are u guys talking about Reg and Neil at Sumaru Auto? I go there to get some work done too, Damain there is a Subaru guy.
Cool guys, which a wicked-ass Z race car. They always have some cool Z projects around the shop too.

I may be interested as well... although I won't have my NIssan 300ZX on the road until April.

I've got a Spec-V and a general affinity for Datsuns/Nissan. If a club is put together, I'd be interested.

Wow, this is cool :)
There are more Spec V's out there than I originally thought...
As a group, we would always have more power. ie Buying power. Mike Kojima was setting up a group deal for NX carbon fiber hoods, but I don't think there are any other NX drivers out there :(
I have an excellent hook-up in Miami for parts and he's a Nissan enthusiast too, great guy to deal with.
First thing is, what are our goals to be besides having more fun than the other guys?.
Let me gather up some more ideas (feel free to add some) and I'll post back to you guys. |

Andy, SRBurg13, PL510...
Perhaps I haven't done a proper job promoting the Edmonton Z Car Club. I should've mentioned much earlier that the club is more than just Z cars. In fact we just updated our club bylaws earlier this year so that our membership definition includes all Nissan sports cars/sporty cars. I forget the exact wording we used.
We have approximately ~ 90 members on our mailing list, and of that between 60-70 which are current in their dues. The group is mostly Z owners, but we have a couple Sentra owners, a couple recent Spec-V owners, a couple 240SXs and several 510s. There are ~ 25-30 Z32 owners, and a lot of 240Z and 280Z owners. There are of course lots of 280ZX and Z31 owners as well.
The club has been in existence for about 12 years now and has good relationships with Ericksen Nissan, Mills Nissan, southside Fastech Tires, Reg's shop of course, and a handful of others.
You won't find a more extensive knowledge base of Nissans and Datsuns anywhere else in the province. Even Calgary only recently got their own club off the ground as of two years ago, with lots of interaction with our group. |

I was at the Z show last year (or was it the year before that???) but the club is full of purists. Mostly older guys like the Miata club.
I think its a good club but it would be cool to have a club for the younger, not the forty somthings. A club where body kits were accepted.
Just my $0.02. I don't even drive a Nissan. |

Sigh... and there you see my uphill battle.
Do you have something against "older guys"? I am actually the youngest guy to hold an executive position (I'm in my twenties still), but that was part of the club's plan -> to start introducing younger blood. We have more younger people joining the club all the time.
If our club has the perception of being only for older guys, then we're going to have to try harder to change that I guess. The EZCC is obviously not getting the respect it deserves. Having a "cool" club, or having fun is not something that is exclusive to "young" people. |

No offense, but I wouldn't take you guys serious until you changed your name.
That's like me joining Supra club with my MR2.

Hmm, alot of good points. I think I'll have the Admins make a Nissan forum so we can stop cluttering up the general auto chat.
Keep a look out for it.
As for the "older guys" well, I don't look at it that way :)
One of the events I went to last year I soent the entire time speaking with a guy who drove an 11 second '68 Satalitte (sp?)
Enthusiasts are enthusiats.
As for the EZCC name thing... That is a tough one. I to know about the Z Car club, but have always associated the Z club with well "Z" named cars.
People will automatically associate the car club name with the members, in this case, Z Car Club are only open to people witha Z car. That is what I've always believed too.
So what's the next step then?. |

I agree with this comment, If I owned a different sort of Nissan I wouldn't consider Joining a Z club with a 240sx or SpecV or whatever... It would just seem improper... (of course it doesn't matter to me anyhow, I'm becoming part of the Z club since I have Z).
In general if there were two Nissan clubs that'd be nice too... say Edmonton NIssan Sports Car Club, and make it "a division of the EZCC"? Just an idea... make the two clubs like brothers, and when events are hosted they would be for both clubs... Something for Zpurists and something for NIssan enthusiasts.... A happy medium
Any other ideas? |

| I don't understand why the Z car club would even want other Nissans in the club. I say keep it Z, you would never see the Corvette club accept Camaro's even though they have the same engine. |
|
|
| SRBURG13 |
Yeah I like that idea too. I have respect for the Z's for sure. But I'd like to see a separated cluc as well. New Gen next to the Old Gen (although Z32's aren't old).
Two different clubs that work together in some sort of way (to be worked out later on), New Skool vs. Old Skool. :P :P If this would be the case, we might have a problem with the Z32's. I know you have a bunch of guys with 'em in your club, but if this one started, I have a bunch that would wanna be part of the new skool (obviously no offence). Hmmm, I think it would be cool to have Z32's of 2 different gens. Like 2 gangs. They can battle against each other. ALthough we want to be all one big happy Nissan family. I'm just throwing out some ideas here.
That would be a blast. New and old. Although you damn Z's are quick.

Either way. I'm currently part of the Mazda RX7 club, and soon to be of the Z Club, but if a "general" nissan club was started, I'd join that too. Everyone has my support....
We could all start an Edmonton Nissan Sports Car Club (name?); have the Edmonton Z Car Club as a division there of, and ahve a second division for anything else that is Nissan. The old School, new School thing is a neat idea but I personally don't know how well it would fly with the Z guys (it seems like they're a pretty tight knit bunch). I think my idea would work well because the Zguys are being pleased and the other NIssan drivers are being pleased as well. Then we could still battle out against each other at the track, in show, or whatever?!
Does anyone want to try and expand on this idea? Or just try a new idea?! |
|
|
| SRBURG13 |
Yeah, NEW VS. OLD!! I love that shit.
NEW=All nissan's including 240's, NX's, Sentra's Maxima's and some sort of grouping like that.
OLD= Z's.............Z Car club. This includes Z32's.
If there are some guys that REALLY want to come to the New side, well then they are more than welcome to.
HOw's that? |

I'm all for a Nissan enthusiast club. I must say the Z clubbers that I have met are not enthusiastic drivers at all. So I think a separate club would be better and keep the Z's together.

Here's where you are wrong. I think the Z guys can be enthusiastic about driving, but from what I've heard there are a lot of middle age men having midlife crisis... meaning they bought the sports car just because!
I have a Z and I tell you what, in a week and a half I've put on 2000km that's a lot of gas and time, that should tell you how much I love my car. I think people can be enthusiasts but on certain levels. I think with the new club we are trying to take it to the next level. Drive the brand and be part of the clan, doesn't matter what sort of nissan you are as long as you are passionate abuot your ride and about DRIVING your ride. |

Whatever! I think before you make a statement like that you should actually take the effort to meet the members of the Z Club.
Yes there are a fair number of middle aged men in the club. But your assumptions are for the most part dead wrong. There are a lot of people who feel very passionate about there cars for one reason or another.
In general a number of the older guys tend to have the older generations of Z cars (240Zs, 280Zs, etc.), and it has absolutely nothing to do with midlife crisis. Those are the Z cars that were special when they were our age. The classics of their day.
Hell, the Z32 was MY dream car when it first came out, back when I was still in high school. Now I own that dream car. I'm not married yet and don't have kids yet, and I'm still under thirty. I plan to keep my car for a long, long time. Does that mean that 10+ years from now, if I still have this car, that I'm going through a midlife crisis?? Hell no.
Generally speaking, the midlife crisis phenomena consists of men who are past their prime, been married (maybe divorced?), had kids, etc. and bought a hot car to feel young again, or whatever...
Those are NOT the qualities that define a "car enthusiast"! And guess what comprises the membership body of car clubs like the EZCC...
CAR ENTHUSIASTS!! |

The one thing that I currently dislike about all of the clubs in the city is the fact that they don't have a lot of events. As of now I've experienced in one club and read from others similar eventlines, that is meet once a month and occasionally have a cruise or a slalom or something.
No I haven't experienced your club yet and I don't know when I will. The club I am currently part of is made of enthusiasts as well, we all love our cars and love driving them. We just got our insurance and can have more events now; that is what I would like to see, more events (cruises, autox's, drags, whatever).
I'll try and further my comment once spring roles around and all of us, as enthusiasts, start meeting with our clubs more frequently. At that point I may have a more educated comment for you, and something a little more constructive to add to any club.
Sorry if you didn't appreciate what I said, I was just relaying information that I had heard from another source. |

I'm currently with the RX7 club. It's a lot of fun actually :) They guys that run it do a really good job.
Anywayz, as to my source, it's a fellow Z31 driver. I'm not going to give a name or description of the car, because I dont' want you to think bad things about him. I'll leave it at that. |
