Story out of Colorado where on January 1, anybody caught in the left lane on a multi-lane highway who isn't passing will be ticketed. The rationale behind it is that the State Police have identified the habit of slow-traffic in the left-lane as a cause for road rage.
Now if only that would / could occur in Alberta!!! Jim...any thoughts? |

I agree wholeheartedly. As an emergency vehicle operator there is nothing more frustrating than trying to run lights & siren to an emergency only to be slowed down by people who feel it is their God given right to drive in the left lane.
When the Highway Traffic Act was replaced by the Traffic Safety Act we were hoping this would be addressed but I guess too many politicians like to drive in the left lane ...

Heck, they finally just fixed (September 30, 2004) the fact that the Traffic Safety Act didn't link with the Manual for Uniform Traffic Control Devices of Canada. It was my boss who pointed that out to them...
Actually, in dealing with out EMS personnel in the past couple of months, I asked their feelings on people who don't get out of the way when the lights / siren are on. There are various US states that have laws on the books and cameras in the vehicles and issue tickets to those vehicles who remain blocking their path. If only Alberta...land of the Redneck...would catch up. |

I hate ppl who don't move over.
I personally on the highways tend to drive in the left lane.. but that's mainly cause i'm going a lil faster then everybody else. if somebody catches up to me.. or rather if they are catching up to me, i move over and if I can't move over I speed up and get outta the way.
I hate it when you end up having to pass ppl inthe right lane and they look at you like your crazy but don't even move over after you've passed. |

We got speedracer over here lol.
All kidding aside I agree too. I can't stand when I get stuck behind two cars going the same speed, one in each lane and neither will speed up or slow down. I tend to use the left lane for passing but sometimes find myself staying in there for a bit when I know I will just be moving back and forth over and over again for like 20 minutes. But if there is no traffic or you are not passing people there is no reason to use the left lane unless you are turning or something. |

When I drive on the highway (Not much - I never leave this city really), I never have a problem with people not pulling over and letting me pass. I agree though - it would be frustrating to have to sit there behind two cars while one inches forward, then back...
I just hate people who think these courtesy rules (Which at this point, they are pretty much just a courtesy) apply to city driving. |

i'd like this law to come in.
this morning i had to pass a couple people on the right because there were going 90-100 in the left lane on the highway (16) and no traffic in the right lane. |

| Well ya if I'mthe only person onthe road I drive inthe right lane... but if i'm gonna be right-left - right- left-wtc... like continually passing ppl... i tend to do 10km/h over on the highways I'll stay in the left lane til either the double ends or traffic thins out alot, or somebody is catching up to me. I don't let them catch me before i move over. cause I also hate that ppl who wait til they've made you slow down to their speed beofre they move over. |

| LOL, I just got back from out east and I thought about procuring a couple of those "KEEP RIGHT EXCEPT TO PASS" signs and posting them up on the highways around here. Call it me doing my civic duty to try and impove Alberta. |

even Whitemud should have a left most passing lane.
not yellowhead cause yellow head trail has both Left and Right exit.
and many doesn't even know when an firetruck or ambulance come, they have to "STOP at right lane.
they just move to right lane and keep on going.
what if the firetruck need to turn right ? |

We have those slower traffic keep right signs and keep right except to pass... well a couple leaving Edmonton south on highway 2 you can see them right near the visitor info thing gateway park or whatever it's called, and same with leave St, Albert going north on hiway 2.
with emergy vehicles ya your supposed to stop, but ppl don't unless they're at an intersection. the other day I was driving down 104th ave near 101st and there was a cop on my butt, no lights, he moved to the right lane i was still inthe left lane and I saw an ambulance coming up behind, so rather move across all 3 lanes to where there wasn't room. Since I was in my truck and well roads where bad, i popped up onto the median and snuck into the very first part of the left turn lane to go into CN tower i was completely outta his way and not blocking any turn lanes.
sure I pulled over onthe left but the cop didn't pull me over. Generally emerg vehciles don't care if the path for them is on the left or right, but they like it when you stop and don't move |

I think that's the key.
In rush hour you can't expect a 3/4 lane road to completely move to the right, there's just not enough room.
But if you stop and don't block the path, I'm sure the driver is more than pleased. |

Question: I am doing 80 in the left lane, people in the right lane are doing 70 (speed limit is 80, whitemud). Some jackass behind me is doing 100 and wants to pass in the left lane, I am still passing people cause they are slower than the speed limit.
Yea, normally I move over so the jackass doin 100 doesnt get all pissy, but I mean come on. I've been passed by fully loaded semi trucks doin 100 on the whitemud...(with that nice litte "hi I am a semi and shouldnt be doin over 90" sign. |

I'd say thats a good thing.. then they know that you know that they're there and then they know that your not gonna move and say pull out in front of them. |
