my friends truck is having a slight problem. its a 1982 chev truck with a 1978 chev engine swap in (350 block) with edelbrock carbs.
when she starts the car in the winter, it of course high idles till its warm enough which is normal. but after about an hour, it starts high idling again for no reason. the only way to get it down is to put it into neutral or park and tap the gas till it comes down. once it comes down, and starts driving again, about an hour later it starts high idling again. most if not all the engine parts are brand new since the engine was put in (new idler control module, new throttle body) everything. so far shes tried lengthening the throttle cable to bring it down to no success. any help would be appreciated. |

| look for a vacuum leak or a problem with the coolant sensors... |

In a carb'ed small block it's the choke that controls the idle
Does she have manual or electric choke? If she has manual, does she know how to use it?
If you watch how the choke works, when you tap on the gas you turn it off. Which you said works fine. Which leads me to believe, without seeing anything or knowing any other details, that your problems lies with the choke. |

| or the kick down, the kick down cable could be binding causing the throttle plate to stay open |
