| You should be able to get one from your insurance company. |

| If the car is a piece, it wont pass. Just go get it inspected and take it from there. |

Every insurance company is different - mine gave me one that was so old/outdated my car didn't even have some of the pieces it asks to be inspected.
And remember, you can always find a mechanic to take $50 and pass the car. |

so i have to get an inspection sheet from the insurance company and bring it to a mechanic to get it done?
and i can't bribe a mechanic! i'd be too pussy to ask for something like that :p |

yup all depends on your broker/ins co.
I had my truck inspected and they used a form from a diff ins broker than my own. and my truck flunked... BUT i got my broker to fax over their form.. and I took it to a buddy mechanic.. I told him excatly what was wrong with it.. and he answered all the blanks in the form truthfully and it passed. |

| okay then...well im looking for an insurance company right now anyway...which insurance company is gonna give me the easiest test? :D |

I use Creative Insurance, they're a broker so they use many ins companies, but the inspection form is easy...
My truck with a rusted frame(has a couple years left atleast before any mojor issues). my idler and pitman arm need replacing, and my brake lines where weather checked, not cracking but weather checked passed based on the form. |

well i looked under the truck and theres like no spots of rust...all brakes and gas lines were replaced less than a year ago...but i think its gonna need a new windsheild (3 cracks all the way across) and new tires |

Well aslong as the cracks don't block your vision your fine.. mine is toast, but it passed cause all the damage is either low or high.
the major factor are brake cylinders(in side the drums) and front steering stuff like tierod ends and pitmans, exhaust and stuff. Also make sure all the lights work. my plate light and reverse lights don't work, but the first time they didn't check them.
Basically they want you to be able to steer/stop/be seen, see other things and not kill you or other ppl due to bad exhaust.
Tires will cause you to flunk.. but no biggie... you just hand in a copy of a recipt later on for new tires. |

well the cracks are all along the bottom...im pretty sure its gonna need replacing....
and with the brake pads the disc brakes and drum brakes in the rear were replaced so thats all good...exhaust has no rust and still has catalytic converter so that should be all good too...and i know every brake light signal light and headlight work
and i'll see about some tires |

I don't know why you guys think you can just hand some mechanic $50 and he'll pass your car?? I know I wouldn't do that. My career would be on the line and i could possibly lose my ticket because of that. Sure you could always say that it passed when I looked at it, but it wouldn't be too hard for an insurance company to prove otherwise. Suck it up and fix the damn car so it's safe and then it'll pass legitemetly. It's almost scary how many crappy unsafe cars are on the road today because of peoples ignorance. Make it roadworthy so YOU know it's safe.

My truck flunked due to the frame the guy told me I had a couple years left before it would be an issue.. same with my idler arm and pitman, he told me they where greasable...but...
I have new idler and itman arm bushings, then come summer I was gonna get the frame fixed. My truck was safe.. just needed a few things. if my frame where to actually fail.. I would he prolly a nice loud noise the rear would sag and i'd probably would be able to get it home. But silly stuff the first guy was upset cause the exhaust had a crack in it after the muffler right before the rear axle.. the pipe ended from factory under the bed behing the rear axle.. I didn't think it was a big deal, but he did...
I agree rust boxes and such that aren't safe or the trunk belly pan scrapes the ground cause the rear springs are shot ya should be taken off the road.
the form creative has is very simple if coveres the basic safety stuff.. do the brakes work - yes or no
does it leak fluids - yes no if yes what?
dothe lights work.... etc etc..
like i said th first guy flunked it for a couple reasons... i got teh actual form from my ins co, told my heavey duty mechanic friend what was all wrong with my truck honestly and his filled out the form truthfully.. at the end of their form i passed with flying colors which for an 83 sounds wrong... so we said the power steering box had a very minor leak. And he's a heavey duty mechanic cummins factory trained etc etc... he isn't gonna risk his career for me... he however didn't charge me for the inspection.
and droppedatbirth just wanted a sheet to know what he would have to fix so it would pass the first time.
Anyhow with the windshield as long as the cracks don't obstruct your vision... it'll pass have it inspected if they flunk it then replace it. |

Many people do pass the cars for the price of an inspection.
You might not, which is commendable. I wish everyone would do this. But they don't.
Remember, everything on an insurance inspection (At least the ones I've had to do) is judgemental, and a mechanic can't get into trouble for saying "good fair poor" because that is his opinion. The insurance company can choose to no longer accept his opinion, but that is all that can be done.
If he had to put down numbers and such, that's a different story. But I think on mine the only numbers needed are brake wear and tire wear.... |
|
|
| SilverNeonRacer |
| heh on mine it didn't even have that.. wellit might have for the tires.. but not the brakes. |

| Insurance inspections are a joke. They are super easy to pass. If you are to broke to fix a few things on your car then you shouldn't be driving. |
