How much should a redlight camera ticket should be? - Click HERE for Original Thread

redlin3
just like the subject says...how much are they supposed to be? cause i got mine..and it came to $287.00
i thought it was like $120.00 at the most....and..is this ticket fightable? cause that night...the roads were damn icerinks...and i had no chance of stopping in time...if i stopped...it would be in the middle of the intersection.....anyways....yah...just wanna know if thats the correct amount for a red light ticket.
thanx

Thats the right amount. When I was in court (as a witness) people were trying to fight them. One guy brought in Environment Canada weather reports about the freezing rain that day, as well as newspaper articles and pictures. There were about 5 people in the courtroom who were all there to fight tickets from that same day. The judge reduced them all to $200 from $287. You probably wont get much sympathy.

scooby_dooby
you bet, god i love alberta.

Don't pay it late or it's $344.

energie
gees that went up, i got one about 2 years ago and it was $87.

MeXx
if you would have stoped in the middle of intersection you could fight it alot better.

impact

Nope it has to be a manned photo radar station for speeding.

They will say, and I would agree, that you would be driving too fast for the conditions. You are lucky it was a red light that you couldnt stop for, not a pedestrian, braking car, or some other obsticle. If it was that icy you should have been driving slow enough to make that stop.

I find ABS a pain in the ass myself.

Remember, the easy way to stop is to pull over where no ones drives (So they'll be sand/snow and not ice) and apply brakes there. Works every time for me.

good call. i think the onus is on the driver to drive according to weather conditions, regardless of how icey it is, hence the lack of sympathy from a judge. it'd only make sense, right? like if you hit a car that was coming through the intersection, i highly doubt your insurance company will file a claim against God (or Mother Nature) because you couldn't stop in time. but that's just my opinion.

In extreme weather situations the insurance companies will not place 100% blame on you for damages to your car.

This is very rare, but it does happen.

ABS doesn't stop the car. It prevents wheel lock up so you can safely avoid object(s). Lots of people think it stops the car, but it doesn't. The base brake system stops the car, so you would be screwed ABS or not.

But ABS would still reduce your braking distance, as when you are locked up sliding on ice you arent gonna stop very fast. And I know, with a bad knee, I cant pump as fast as abs can.

I hate Chev ABS, the 4wheel ABS in the R/T neon is good.. sorta I can actually steer and stop quicker when it kicks in.... ever chev i've driven with ABS all it does is pulsate the vehicle... once i was going a lil fast approaching a blind intersection, hit the brakes kinda lockup ABS kicks in i wasn't stopping so I grabbed the e-brake pulled a 360 and stopped right on the line.

I ran into something similar the other day driving down St Albert trail when to stop with lots of room I locked up and managed to get the car onto the rough where it wasn't polished ice.

But yeah... Judge would say shoulda been driving slower.

Samething if a cop tries to pull you over and due to weather conditions you slide and or have issues pulling over you can get a speeding ticket even if your doing 40 in a 50. the speed limit is the fastest you can safely go based on weather conditions up to the posted max.

do left hand turns get redlight cam treatment aswell? cause what if your waiting for the oncoming to become clear?

Depends... left hands they normally give a break for clearing the intersection, but if you make a left half way through the red.. yeah you'll get a ticket

With a normal knee you can't pump the brake as fast as abs anyways. ABS "pumps" the brake hundreds of times a minute. Unless your leg is having extreme seizures, I doubt you can reach this frequency without breaking the sound barrier.

For me, ill take ABS over non-ABS. It gives your control of steering and unfortunatly, most people are too damn afraid to let off the brake and steer out of a collision and instead try to steer with the pedal mashed to the floor.
