I went to an auction and the car detonating like CRAZY. It sounded like a bunch of people were under the hood hitting the engine with hammers and everyone starts talking and laughing then the auction announcer says "Could just be a belt folks", thats when everyone started laughing... lol a belt, COME ON! :asshole:

The best line is:

"It's in average condition for it's age"

so you go and look at it, door dings all over the place, trashed interior, trashed engine bay. And the guy says "What do you expect, it's a 7 year old car."

A belt?!...

My favorite was "what car hasn't been in an accident?"

As for checking used cars,

Check for fenders lining up properly
Check for colors matching alone the paint and fender to fender
If you have a small magnet, that's usefull for suspect body damage and/or repair
Check for bolts that have been "moved" this could indicate a serious hit
Rust points
Lighted areas on the dash that feel warm (could be an electrical problem)
Try to inspect the electrical wiring as much as possible, any visible "patching" that is done could be a bad sign.

And of course, always listen to your instincts. If they make you feel wary, get the hell away.
