Anyone drive a LHD car and it just feels unnatural? - Click HERE for Original Thread

dance_of_curse
On friday night after about 1 i got the chance to drive my friends car around the church across from Mill Woods town center you know just a bit of fun. btw its a 1991 Geo Storm...:D I know its ghetto but w/e. Well everytime I would go to the e-brake to stop by one of the light poles I kept taking my right hand off the e-brake and going for the steering wheel and taking my left hand and..."going" for the shifter.which doesnt exist on the LHS on a LHD car... It was so weird....I may be playing to many jdm car games or something but it felt wrong....Ive never driven a RHD car but I think it would feel for normal....some of you may have felt the opposite way when first driving a RHD car compared to a LHD one but yeah....I just found it effed....and hard to drive...I dont know if this is susposta go in this forum or not but its the only place I can think of....Post your uhh "experiences" about this:blue::bthumbup:

I haven't driven a RHD yet.. but LHD does kinda seem funny, it's insinct so I don't think about it, but sometimes on long highway drives I get thinking that it's s lil funny I steer with my weak arm and shift with my strong arm.. hmmmmm

and I can't stand steering with my right arm just cause I like to keep my right arm on the shifter.. even on long highway trips.

I thinka RHD would take a lil getting used to... i've shifted from the pass seat of LHD for drivers so it's not a big deal. would be interesting to actually get to drive a RHD for a month or so....

ehos
It's all good except I always hit the wiper switch to signal.

Transporter
right hand is your stronger amr.. then u will need that for shiffting..

what i am sayin u need a stronger arm for shifting cause there is more to th moyio.. push forward move sideways pull back and for soem u have to push in or pull up

for steering it requires less energy.. all u are doing is turn one way or another you are only working in one axis..

where as shifting works on 3 axis...

but the honest truth.. no matter which u go.. in the end you will learn for it to become second nature

for eg... do u breathe with ur stomach going in and out or ur shoulders going up and down?

i use both tecnquies.. but second nature to me is stomach in and out after i learned it for almost year

I may be playing too many jdm car games or something but it felt wrong....Ive never driven a RHD car but

Yeah........... ok.

Is your CCM RHD too?

I used to think that because I drove with my right hand, (first car was a CVT) I would never get used to a stick unless it was European RHD. Thankfuly, I was just young and stupid.

i have driven rhd and lhd, lhd feels more natural to me because it's what i'm used to, but rhd didn't really feel 'unnatural' and after a couple minutes was just as intuitive as lhd.

Forward/backward, left/right is two axis...there is no "Z" axis... ;)

There is in certain VW's. You have to push down to get it in reverse.

Come to think of it, it's the same with my brother's Caravan.

SilverNeonRacer
My d50 your supposed to push to get into reverse.. but rarely had to. Cavalir and Focus standards you have to pull on the silly lil lock to go into reverse.

Transporter
wedge: see there is the Z axis.. in some cars u have to push down or pull up on the boot to go into reverse..

it is called a reverse lock feature so u accidental can't jam it in reverse while attempting to do crazy drift driving typz skillz

ha ha aha h

Hehehehe, well in most "normal" cars, there is no 3rd axis...so shhhh... :p

dance_of_curse
wouldnt the clutch count as the third....pushing it down?

Lol thats kinda like driving an automatic and you go to panic stop so you intend to mash the brake and the clutch.. cept there's no clutch so you double foot the brake...

i did that in my dad's truck once.. if my mom wasn't wearing a seat belt she woulda been ejected cause I did a full double foot stand on the brake.

oldraven
I just kick the floor beside the brake and shake my fist at the dash when I'm in an automatic. That is, when I'm not fighting to stay awake.

mwdguy
i feel dumber for reading this bullshit ....
