Light 'weight' cars, need help! - Click HERE for Original Thread

ehos
I need a list of very light/small cars that are available in Canada.

My favs right now are Sprints/Fireflys etc. Just wondering if there is any lighter cars + their weights.

Miatas, Civics, FD's (ha), MR2's, anyone have weights for all these cars or a website listing weights?

ALSO, any cars that can be really stripped down?? :)

Echo HBs weigh in around or even under 2000lbs

A few other lightweight cars are:
-first generation RX-7's
-Datsun 510
-Honda CRX/Civic

mx73someday
-Toyota Starlet
-Nissan Micra (~1600lbs i believe)

Cool, good suggestions. I'm looking for light weight of course, and if it has nice power that's good too :)

I totally forgot about 1G RX7's. I want to build a cheap, light drag fun car.

I was also thinking of 'locost' homebuilt or a VW Dune buggy (Manx) with a bigger motor. Something super light, with a bit of HP (I hate FAT cars I realized after driving DSM's).

Sorry, don't mean to knock DSM's, but I tried the 2G + 1000's in mods and still was really really slow (my little sprint turbo seems faster, stock, ugh).

92 golfs are small// well light enough when we told Uhaul we where towing one behind a ranger that didn't squak, but htey squaked whenI saud i was towing a neon behind my 3/4ton diesel D50.

Ford shoot what is it.. it's small boxy... smaller than a colt... Festiva.... i knew someobdy who go stuck on the highway, on a patch of ice.. flat road.. she got stuck.. too light to get any traction.

If your looking at a sprint firelfy.. look into a suzuki Swift GT or GTi... the earlier years would be better as they where smaller, dunno bout lighter.

mr2 mki with a jdm gen ii swap.

I know the mkii weighs about 2600-2700 pounds.

Mki is supposed to be really lighter.

if you swap the engine, expect low 13's stock

Just go to autos.msn.com then in the top-left, pick "Used" and the vehicle you want. Click the year you're interested in, then click the Features & Specifications tab, then choose Exterior and the curb weight will be listed.

SRBURG13
Datsun 510's
Mazda B210's (I think their called that).

takayuki
datsun 240z, toyota tercel.

MX5 Miata Guy
1990 & 1991 Miatas are 2105lbs (955kg). Besides being a fun car on the street, they're also RWD for the drag-strip, and take to either supercharging or turbocharging like ducks to water.

TRY A PRE 90'S MAZDA 323 I HAVE 2 AND I THINK THE WEIGHT IS AROUND 1700 lbs. I'M NOT POSITIVE THOUGH. OR U COULD ALWAYS LOOK INTO A DODGE OMNI TURBO, JUST A THOUGHT.

If you do this, you will be very happy. one of my friends has a 67 chassis with a fiberglass dune buggy body and a fresh 1.8 super beetle engine with dual carbs/full exhaust. Only about 45 hp but it feels pretty quick and there are lots of companies making hopped up engines and parts. 100 hp is pretty easy and will make it rip. 200 hp has been done lots and turns in 12 sec. quater mile times.

I'm told a standard beetle, old school of course, a porche engine outta 911 or 939 will both right in.. can't remember which one.. suposidly the tranny fromthe beetle will even work.

SketchifisT
79 honda civic HB :D , takes a ZC engine or a old accord 1.6 litre engine that even bolts up to the tranny. Great car i loved it, i still have mine but its not doin too much

Quick search...nets a curb weight of 2,426lbs...a whole 300+ more than a Miata.

and there best time i do believe was only 13.4

dance_of_curse

A 6cyl porsche engine will not bolt right, it has been done berfore but requires tons of custom work. I think a mid 60's bettle with a built type 4 engine could easilt pull low 12's. And what about the Rabbit GTI.

I cant believe no one said a r100
