Check out page 8 & 9 of the attached link to see the fines for speeding (remember to add 15% surcharge to all amounts). The proposed amounts are now the current fines.

Specified Penalties

Posted in another thread... my Q is in the link provided above it says:

Possesing another persons license is a $300 fine. I'm curious about this cause i always carry my wife's license or almost carry her license in my wallet, in addition to my own. I mainly have hers cause she sends me to western union to send payments for in store credit cards and they need ID, it it complicates things if I send the money as a 3rd party for her.

So if i get caught with her license will they really fine me.. or is it just if i hand them(police/RCMP) hers instead of mine?

Thanks

I guess one question I have to ask here is: what does your wife use for a license when she's driving?

Charging someone w/ this type of an offence would definitely be left to the discretion of the police officer. This charge is to stop people from using someone else's ID when stopped by the police or when using ID to enter a licensed establishment etc. I probably come across 1 or 2 licenses a month that have a photo on it that I'm sure I could use as ID for myself (we all know how good driver's license photos are).

I would think that Western Union also has some policy regarding using someone else's ID.

Well... It's small town western union..... so they do what is easiest for paperwork. I tried doing it 3rd party, they got confused so I mentioned I had her DL and they saidd that would work.

as far as what she uses while driving, right now.... I drive her in her car, but normally she forgets it at home and she knows her DL #, she's been pulled over before they ask for her license, she explains she forgot it at home and that she knows the #, they ask for the number she gives them the number and no probs.

Thanks.

Just a quick FYI - if your wife is stopped in the future she may receive a fine for failing to produce her license. Some people think there's a 24 hour grace period to produce it but in reality there isn't. The fine is $115 - check out Sec 51(d) of the Traffic Safety Act. The fine for possessing someone else's license is $345 - check out Sec 51(k).

I found that one out the hard way. My buddy and i went to 7-11 for a slurpee and we walked in and i realized i forgot my wallet. You can see my buddies house where i left my wallet from the front door of 7-11. So we hop into the car and drive back to his house. But no about 100ft away from his house we get pulled over... I get a ticket for failure to produce my license. I was so choked........... Even after i tried to explain he still wouldn't budge. I mean come on... People do make mistakes.....

All i gotta say is Sherwood Park has the worst cops around.

Traffic tickets have become so automated that dealing with a officer is sort of like talking to a machine. Regardless of the circumstances, they are gonna give you a blank stare and hand you the ticket. Now, this isn't all cases, but I'm finding more and more, this is how the situation unfolds.

This was also brought up awhile ago in an issue of SCC. The editor of the magazine was given a ticket for making a U-turn at an innapropriate intersection. The same points were brought up. I think his answer is the best solution. Don't sweat the small stuff.

getting a ticket may seem small but if someone came up to you and asked for 100$ would you give it to him just cuz he asked for it...dont sweat the small stuff.

Getting a ticket is an entirely different situation that what you just described.
