hello everyone, this is what happened....the cop pulls me over @ 100 ave and 170th street, and i honestly have no idea why.....so he comes to the window and asks to see my licence and insurance...and i ask why....he replys becuase your tail lights are not working, as in both rear tail ligts arnt working....i ask what are you talking about...so i look and there they are...OFF>...my head lights are on and working but in the back its black "meaning when driving in the night u dont see the back of my car, UNTILL i press the brakes and then they turn on....i honestly had no fukcing clue why this was, so we procedded to my insurance and i handed it to him and to my supprise the fukcing insurance is out of date, PINK SLIP....the plate tags are fine but my dad forgot to put the NEW pink slip into the car, the car is my dads.....so he goes to his car and comes back with two fukcing tickets, one for FAIL TO PRODUCE VALID REGISTRATION ($172), and the other VEHICLE EQUIPMENT NOT IN WORKING ORDER($115)!!!!!!!!!!!!...

1st. question....why do i get the ticket(s) if the car is not mine and not insurured as the car owner under my name???im not responsible for it!!!!

2nd question...why couldnt he have let me go with a warning ....honeslty i didnt know about the tail lights...and also i didnt know about the fukcing insurance....AND I WAS LIKE 1 BLOCK AWAY FROM MY HOUSE!!!!!!!!!!!NOW THAT COP WAS AN:asshole:

3rd question....oh and will or are there any damerit points on those tickets....i dont think it says on them ...im not sure...thanks

They are not Moving Violations, so no demerits.

You're lucky - he could have towed your car for not having the correct pink slip in there.

Do you even realize how dangerous it is to drive without taillights at night?

Of course not.

Do you realize how much trouble you'd be in if you got into an accident without a valid pink slip?

Of course not.

He should've just towed your car - I think you need to learn your lesson.

Loose
Who cares. If it's your dad's just get him to pay the tickets.

$115?! Wow, mine was $57. Funny how they can give different tickets for a single thing...:dunno:

Ever driven on a dark highway with someone with burned out headlights or tail lights? You are totally in the wrong. Don't bitch about somethingthat is deserved.

The cop should have towed his car for having non-functional tail lights at night. This is a serious saftey issue.

You got the ticket because you are responsible for producing a valid registration and proof of insurance. This is not the same ticket as not having insurance or no registration. Two different tickets.

it is your responisble before u drive any car to amke sure it is in working order....even if you took your car to garage to get work done .. and they did something that made ur tailight go off....it is still ur responsisblity to amke sure everything is working before u drive off

heh yeah.. calm down... Before they upped the fines I had gotten my new, well new to me truck.

I was 1 day past the 2 weeks to have the plate switched over, they started following me cause they thought I was going too fast around a traffic circle, I wasn't, anyhow...

I was honest when I handed over my paper work, and said I realize I haven't switched it over yet, due to the shift I was working 8am to 8pm 7 days a week there was no way I could make it into a registries to get my plate switched.

The told me to wait in my truck and look forward... bout 10min later they backked off the cruiser, lights still on(so I can't leave, they still had my paper work) and then a tow truck swooped up and had my truck up in the air before I could get out.

They hit me with EVERY thing they could think of.. after registering the truck going to the impound finding out the cop had taken my plate I had to go back re-pay for a new plate. Paying off the fines they gave, me unauthorized plate etc, etc, it cost me $1200 to get my truck back with towing and storage for 3 days.

Soo um yeah... calm down.

He didn’t even know the lights were malfunctioning… so towing him sure would “teach him a lesson”… As for the pink slip, I was pulled over for speeding once, and my slip was expired (registration was up to date, and insurance valid, but pink slip was outdated), the cop just gave me the speeding ticket, and told me to get a new slip, so I don’t know… some cops are nicer than others.

Your dad had the correct pink slip at home did he not? Produce the pink slip and validation date they should remove the ticket , Thats what I did.

Re-read what he got ticketed for. "Failure to Produce". This is a seperate offence from "Failure to Have". You must be able to produce your driver's licence, vehicle registration and proof of insurance when demanded by a peace officer. Not 24 hours later, but right then. There is no way out of this ticket.

So you're suggesting that if someone claims they didn't know that something was wrong with their car we just let them off the hook every time, taking away the responsibility they have to make sure the car they are driving is legally safe?

So if his taillights are out, and it's foggy and you run into the back of him, is he allowed to just say "Oh well, now I know. Now, you're at fault for the accident 100%"? Of course not.

First thing I do if I ever drive someone elses car is make sure everything is working properly. Ignorance is not a reason to commit an offence

ChromeDragon
It doesn't matter that you didn't know the taillights were out. Do you think it would have been any more acceptable if you did know? I check the lights on my vehicles at least once a week and I'm always sure to check the lights if I'm driving someone else's vehicle. Same goes for insurance. It's your responsibility to ensure it's up to date.

mwdguy
Ignorance isnt an excuse for not being responsible. Same goes for your dad for not having the correct papers in the car. Make him pay too.

SilverNeonRacer
I generally know real quick if my bulbs go out, and if the odd chance I don't have a spare I go get one asap.. and if I get pulled over while enroute to ct/wallymart/wherever to get a bulb, I'd explain, yes I knew it was out, it just popped and I'm on my way to get a replacement.

oh ...the following day i checked what was the problem and i looked at my fuse box and ...what do you know....the fuse for the tail lights was burnt out!!!!fucking shit....a 50 cent fuse cost me over 300 dollars in tickets
