| Wondering what the decibel laws are in edmonton for exhaust. Someone told me 90 but Im not sure. |

Thanks that link helped me alot , 25 decibels huh , well then I gotta feeling my GA is a trap for cops. I have to reinstall a stock muffler cus of a cop in Leduc. Even with the stock muffler Im going to produce more than twice the legal decibels.
I looked into decibels and comparisons of what makes certain decibels. A class room of students is average 59 decibels and a teacher has to speak at 65 decibels for kids to hear the teacher. 25 decibels is a mouse fart. I heard that light/moderate traffic is like 80 decibels , If a car makes 90 decibels it should be hardly noticable cus the sound gets mostly cancelled out or interfered with.
I can see the cops using db measuring equiptment but only in residential areas where interferance would be low otherwise they wont get very accurate readings.
IMO from what Ive been reading. Ill look into it more cus 25 decibels is a muffled fart in the bathtub and it doesnt make sense that a sound quieter than a classroom of students can be illegal.
I dont know what the cops are trying to do and I highly doubt they will spend big $$$$ on proper equiptment that can single out noise from one car at a time from a moving vehicle in traffic , theres too much controversy with sound interferances. This is gonna be IMO situations were if you fight it most likely will be dropped as long as you fight it. Also you could mention that the judge will speak at an average of 60db and thats illegal on the streets. Wierd laws here :dunno: |

The police would never issue a ticket to someone with stock exhaust equipment. I am sure your GA sounds like a complete animal with the factory mufflers, but lets be realistic here. Unless you drive around and rev up like an idiot all day long, I wouldn't get all panicky about getting a ticket.
The idea behind the excessive noise penalty is to get people to use a little common sense when either they modify their exhaust to the extreme, or it simply rots off. |

If you drive normally/safe, keeping the rev's low you won't have a problem.
I drove 4 weeks with my cutout wide open in my Z28 without a single hassle from the police. |

That's quieter than a "very quiet library" and the same as a "recording studio" according to the OSHA. |

I been driving with a straight pipe setup for 2 years. The only place I ever had trouble was in Leduc. I been pulled over many times for other things but the exhaust was never a issue then. I also heard that exhaust laws are fairly new to Alberta. Is that true or a farse? |

I was thinking the same thing , would a cheap ass tip from crappy tire make it quieter? You know the one's that make the 4cylinder exhausts louder. Or will that make my exhaust a fart cannon?

Its loud and quite rumbly. It actually gets a lil quieter at mid rpm ranges 4000ish. I have traction controll and in winter when it kicks in it braps like a massive carbed v8 lol all that in a lil alluminum v6. This exhaust is not considered how you say "economical" by no means. I have No Cat No Res just mid pipe Straight flow blue bottle and a reversed gilled blue bottle on the rear. |
