Suspension?! - Click HERE for Original Thread

redbaron303
Inzane you may have the best answer for this being a Z guy and all, but anyone please help.

My rear struts are shot on my Z, something for me to fix in the spring... (mind the pun)

In any case, I know that if I lower the car there'll be an excessive camber angle to the back wheels, as well I like the stock ride hight, but I want a firmer more rigid suspension... right now the current suspension makes it seem like the car floats over bumps and is a little bouncy.

What I want to do is keep the stock ride height, but get firmer suspension, allowing for a more stable and responsive ride. I'm buying a strut bar for the car and I know that will help... but what about springs or shocks or struts or...?!

oh yes, and i have to keep in mind that I won't be on an unlimitied budget. I'm not sure what my limit is yet, but it sure isn't the stock electronic suspension, that'll cost about a $1000.00 for all four courners...

Anybody have any ideas for me?! :fingersx:

Perhaps some AGX's and Eibach springs?.

Rear sway bar sizes can adjust your tail out attitude. Do you have HICAS on your Z?.

I'd reccommend the Ground Control Coil over kits, but that may put you over budget...

For the most part, you can adjust the rear camber within reason if you don't slam the car to the ground on cheap springs that bottom out (read: rice mod)

I only lowered my NX 1.5", but it was enough to have to slot the struts to bring the alignment back into spec.

Your Z should have some degree of camber adjustment on the rear. (The Z32 does.) You may need new springs (if you want to keep stock ride height), or you could go with Eibach Pro-Kit springs which is only a modest drop. About 0.8" on the Z32, probably similar on the Z31.

You can use aftermarket shocks with stock or aftermarket springs. The KYB AGXs are a good choice if you don't mind ditching the factory adjustability. However, if your car has high mileage (and I think it does based on what you told me before) you'd be surprised how much improvement you'd feel just from replacing your shocks in kind with new OEM ones.

But why replace, when you can .... UPGRADE! :D

I recently put Eibachs & KYB AGXs in my Z32, and rear camber is now set at -1.7 deg, which is close enough for me (factory spec says stay within -1.6). This setup was exactly what I wanted and its great!

Autotoyz at WEM said it would be about $500.00 for the eibach springs, the prokit (at least that was for my mazda rx7 when I was checking prices on that) I assume it would be similar for the Z as well.

My best bet then is probably

Eibach Prokit
---eibach sway bar kit?!
kyb agx shocks?!

Where can i get info on the kyb agx shocks?! Webpage or a dealer in edmonton?

Thanks.

Can't you get a camber adjustment kit for your car? I have one on my Prelude.

I believe so. I haven't checked around in a while, but i'm pretty sure Eibach had one... which means I'd have to go withtheir spring kit (unless I'm mistaken).

Either way in the end, Eibach seems like the best route to go for my Z.

Has anyone heard of Tein suspension?!

redbaron303
This is the Eibach Prokit, but it says exc. Turbo... and mine is a turbo, so does that mean I wouldn't be able to use their setup? If that's the case what else can I do?

NISSAN, 300ZX - 1986

Very few manufacturers make camber plates for Nissan, and they usually are done correctly and expensive.

Tell you what, call up Isidro (Ees-see-droe) from www.highperformanceonline.com (there's a 1-800 number) and tell him Andy sent you. I worked a sweet deal with him on my AGX's, shipped to my door with "Warranty Replacement on the box and the invoice shipped seperately, he's very happy to help, and they can accomodate somewhat the Canadian Peso...

ps. I ordered the AGX and GC coilovver kit from him...

I haven't had the time to put them in last season, hopefully I'll have them in for next season!.

thanks for the help again. Unfortunatly I won't be calling anyone till spring. There just isn't a point for me to do it now, while I'll be storing my car soon anyhow.

What I don't understand is why the suspension setup would be different for a z31 na and a z31 turbo?! Eibach claims they exclude the turbo from that setup?! What if I bought those springs already, could I still put them in and have a safe and firm ride? Or would I just be screwed?! That just confuses me!

Inzane
Check the Eibach catalog and/or website again, there probably are two separate part #s for the Z31 Turbo and Non-Turbo. The Z32 is that way: Different spring rates are used.

Before you decide to buy from the US, check with Tunerworks in Calgary. Maybe I lucked out last spring but I did my research for a couple months (roughly a year ago now) before I bought my Eibach & KYB combo, and they were able to match the best deals I found over the internet at the time.

US$ price (best deals I found) + shipping (US Postal or whatever) + conversion factor (US to CDN) + duty & GST roughly equaled what I paid at Tunerworks (CDN$ + GST). I was quite pleased with those guys.

Tein Coilovers are getting very expensive. Their most basic coilover kits start at $900 US and up.

Inzane: I did check eibach twice to see if I was mistaken, but it doesn't have an option for the turbo. I was talking to a buddy and he thinks it's from electronic suspension.

I should ask reg and neil if they've done anything like this on a Z31 and if they did how they did it. This electronic suspension seems to be quite the shit to mess around with!

I think I'll come to the Nissan Z meet tomorrow night, just to check your guys' club out! Although it is awefully far to travel...

redbaron303
BTW, does KYB have a webpage or is there a webpage that has information on the setups you guys have suggested? I have to put some good research into this!

I believe KYB has a website.

http://www.kyb.com/
hope that helps you out.

redbaron303
It does, thanks!
