Honda displayed a Civic Si concept in Chicago, calling it a “strong indication of the styling and performance direction for an all-new production Civic Si” that will make its real-world debut at SEMA in November. A sneak peek of the sixth-generation Si, the concept features the latest generation of “intelligent” I-VTEC technology, as well as a 200-horsepower, 16-valve DOHC engine mated to a close-ratio six-speed manual transmission. A helical-type limited-slip differential helps improve launch traction and cornering performance, and 18-inch cast-aluminum wheels wrapped in 225/40R18 tires and four-wheel disc brakes with cross-drilled rotors and four-piston Brembo calipers improve handling. “The 2006 Civic Si Coupe will be the most powerful, fastest, and fun-to-drive Si we’ve ever put on the street and the Civic Si concept sets the direction in terms of its styling, package, and performance,” says John Mandel, Senior Vice President of American Honda. The 2006 Civic lineup will include a sedan and coupe, as well as fuel-efficient Hybrid and natural-gas powertrains when it comes to market in the fall. well it doesn't look bad.. he front is kinda cool with all the windows and headlamps tinted. not a fan of the rear though...

ok 200hp, how much tq?

2003specv
I'd rather drive this Civic than that shitty Azeal concept Nissan put out a little while ago.

Kirill
I like the rims.

SilviaDrifter
sweeeeeeet i like i like:beer:

DC5PWR
Id buy it.

ThinkAboutIt
Love the front, dont mind the back. Looks like every other honda in the middle. Exhaust looks a little tiny but whatever.

Bucktown
looks sweet to me

No-Pistons
thats pretty nice i like the tinted front lights but i dont think it will come that way???:dunno:

Orzel
Well, its a shitload better than that disgusting Mitsubishi Eclipse Concept.

Mavrick
I would love to see Honda build this car.

If Chrysler can build a 230hp Neon, and Chevy builds a 215hp Cavalier to counter it, why shouldn't Honda step up to show them how it really should be done?

As long as they can produce it in the same price range as their competition, I would definitely consider waiting for this car instead of buying something else this spring.

S O
Hopefully Honda's production version will retain the styling of the concept - so often the concepts are much more stunning than the showroom iteration. That is one cool Civic, although it's annoying that they black out the lights and such cause that will never make it to production.

THUD
Hmmm well I have to say that I like it but the exuast does look a bit tiny, I bet the final version we see will not have the black hood & the fog lights will be white and the head lights won't be shaded and the spoiler would be 50/50.
Kinda mix of a acura TL witha bit of rsx and a new back side...hell just toss in a super charger in there and you got one fun ride

scooby_dooby
that's the nicest factory civic i've ever seen...the rims, exhaust, taillights, headlights, sideskirts and front end are all lookin tight.

lsd too, that's right on...I just wonder how much it weighs...and how big is the engine?

scooby_dooby

damn...not bad for a...CIVIC???

it looks like an RSX but better...

SilverZ24
Looks a million times better than that hideous daewoo-looking hatch that was going around earlier.

Obviously it will look considerably more conservative by the time it comes out, but it is a very good looking car (minus the wing IMO). Anyone see any pictures of the interior yet?

i've read that its the K24 out of the accord.

scooby_dooby
the rumour is that the production version will be almost the same, it will lose the black hood, the smoked headlights and come with 17's instead of 18's.

It looks like an abbreviated Toyota Solara...

Not to shabby, not too shabby at all.

This coming from a non-Honda conformist.

"The Civic Si Concept celebrates the 20th anniversary of the Civic Si legacy in the U.S. and builds on its performance heritage with a 200-horsepower, 16-valve, DOHC i-VTEC engine with an 8,000 rpm red line, mated to a close ratio 6-speed manual transmission"

this one is interes ting

January 27, 2005 -- From recently obtained inside information given exclusively to Honda-Acura.Net by an email tipster, we have verified the engines that will be featured in the 2006 Honda Civic, 2007 Honda Fit and possibly the 2007 Acura TSX, plus other engines that have unknown destinations. Our source reports that Honda is in the final stages of development for three new engines destined for the US, including a 2.0L 4 cylinder and a 2.4L 4 banger. One of these engines will probably be slotted into the Civic Si, respectively. What’s more, Honda is bringing to market its first US application of a turbocharger in the form of a 2.4L Turbo. This engine will presumably be fitted into the Acura TSX, or perhaps even a high output Civic slotted above the Si. Also, our source has confirmed that Honda is developing a new 1.3L hybrid engine, a 1.5L and a 1.8L. The 1.5L, originally scheduled for launch in MY2006, has been delayed until MY2007 but it will be built in the US.

"Undoubtedly the biggest surprise of this batch is that Honda has chosen to introduce a turbocharged engine in the US. While our source could not confirm whether or not it would be a DOHC i-VTEC, he hinted that it would not be affixed to the current K24 engine that Honda uses in the TSX, Accord and Element. No horsepower figures are available, but expect the Civic Si’s powerplant to produce around 200 horses while the turbo should make about 250. The new 1.3L Hybrid engine will probably see duty in either a Fit Hybrid or the next iteration of the Honda Insight. The Fit, Honda’s wildly popular car in Europe and Japan, will probably start at around $12,000 when it reaches US shores.*"

scooby_dooby
it's probably not fair t compare a concept to a productions car, even though honda's concepts are usually pretty close to reality, but I'm gonna do it anyways...

Here's "the competition"

In just the looks/styling area I think honda has this one sewn up...

not at all :dunno:

might as well get it out of the way early. so all the haters can have a circle jerk.

oldraven
Well, Honda or not, I second guess any company who won't release torque numbers.

silverTEG
what do "peak" numbers really mean anyway?

oldraven

They mean the 'highest' level of torque on the curve. :)

I'm just messing with you there. I know what you mean, but any number is better than nothing. A dyno sheet would be ideal, but I'd take peak torque over just hp peak numbers.

scooby_dooby
peak TQ numbers are meaningless without HP to give them context, HP is more meaningful in relation to performance.

How many 1/4 mile calulators have you enter the torque?? They wouldn't cause torque is meaningless without knowing the RPM, and the relationship between torque and RPM is shown as HP.

I would take just HP over just TQ anyday, unless it's TQ@xxxx RPM, that's probably more meaningful than just HP, but it could still be completely deceiving.

Anyways, if it's a 2litre it'll probably be in the 130's, 140s for torque, 2.4 probably in the 150's or 160's, that's my guess based on their other engines.

RWD
i like it

SaabKraft
with that profile shot, the hood looks so tiny in length reminds me of a minivan's front end... these crazy new cars keep raking the windshield back.

but i'm stuck in euro-80's style mode, so disregard me.

kind of funny how much i'll have to mod my car to even stand a chance of keeping up to this new breed of econo-sport boxes.

technological progress: 1, me: 0.

Pro Drag
I like the way it looks. I like Honda waking up to turbo technology even better.
It will be interesting to see how they implement it, if it ever turns out to be more than a rumor.

egtuner
you guys do know its just a redisigned civic with the stock RSX-S motor in it right?

se-i
I say not all hondas are tourqe less. My car came with a whopping 120hp and 122ftq. I have never been a big fan of civics but this one looks nice. If it ever makes the market with a turbo 2.4 it would be pretty sick

CanadianR
If the turbo rumour is true i'll be very excited to see this car released, especially if it's in a 2.4L. But they really need to ditch the macphersons and go back to the double wishbone suspension to win my heart. Combine those two attributes and Honda may once again come out on top of the competition. I just love to see the manufacturers one-up each other, because the consumer wins when that happens.

They keep raking the windsheild back because of the new "pedestrian safety rating" ie: The likelyhood that a drunk idiot who happened to wander infront of your car has to survive when you plow into him.

The smooth and often raked hood and windsheild help cushion and coddle the jaywalker.

Anyone else notice that car has no door handels ?
