I bought a 1998 this past summer knowing that there were dings in the body. The previous owner tried to fix them by dabbing touch-up and it looks like shit. It's right under my driver side window and front fender. Can anyone give me a place to check out where I can get it fixed that won't leave me eating my clothes to survive.

paintjob... well eveyrone knows the horror stories from maaco but we're gonna see what we can do for my buddies lude. sanding, prepping, primering it then gonna see what it looks like after a $300 paintjob form maaco. Ive been told they do a good job spraying its just their prep work that is poo. |

If you want to risk that route, they also do a really crappy job masking. They will paint everything including rotors/tires/rims/mouldings...etc. They don't cover anything but the basics. Lots of overspray.
Here is what I would do...... Do all the prep work yourself, pull off all mouldings, lights, bumpers, etc. Take in your car on a flat bed (rent it, it will be worth it) and mask everything exept the tires). Get them to paint the bumpers off the car and you may come out with a half decent $300 paint job. Keep in mind though, that $300 doesn't even cover the materials for a good paint job (ie. prep materials and a decent paint). There are BIG differences in paint qualities...... they wouldn't spend money on a good paint and not prep the car when they know covering their warrantee work will waste more money when a cheap paint would do the same job.
I would pay the money to get it done right..... if it were me.

i had a car painted at maaco awhile ago and it cost $1100. base/clear.
they have massive overspray, the weatherstripping was painted, and was crusty :dunno: and when you rolled the windows down, they painted a strip on the top of the windows. rims/tires were fine. they must of covered them. paint came out good believe it or not, shiny, and didn't cause any problems. they did however paint the exhaust though :blink:
overall not extremely bad. good for a touch up. paint holds its own. i have no idea about the $300 job though. |

| I'm still stumped.:blink: Transform quoted me at $800+ to do two panels and over $3500 to do the entire car. I'm not even thinking of going to Maaco. I've heard all the horror stories. I think I'll call around and see if I can find anything else cheaper or someone that can do just the area's where the damage is. Thanks for the help anyways guys. |
