Ever notice how chrome gets "stained" in drip zones or near tail pipes? Our machines are designed to let water fall off in certain locations more than others. Too make things worse they will have drip zones whenever theres chrome fixed in position with Plastic. It will stain make a gold like drip mark running down the chrome. This is how chrome starts to "corrode"
What I do is clean the chrome and blow the water out of the cracks with a air gun. I then apply a "Metal Polish" with a applicator pad (dabbing not rubbing) then I work it in with a power polisher and a wool pad. (Wear safety goggles and a dust mask) I also mask off the plastic so I dont get metal polish stains in it. Friction and metal polish can reverse the staining affect if it doesnt right away keep reworking it untill you get desired results. (Ecellent chrome rims restoration method)
Good quality chrome will not stain but it will pit , pitting causes corrosion and this works to reduce the ugly look and slows corrosion effects pitting makes. Also consider not using outer wieghts to balance the tires use inner this is a must for cosmetic rims that still bear a lip outer edge.
