I'd like to know what I should do to start my tuning off on the right foot. Should I start with cold air intake or get a new exhaust sytem. I'm looking to gain some extra Hp first and then dress up my new baby:D but I only want to spend around $1000 right now. input would be great. Thanks.:)

depends on what you have planned for the future. if your planning turbo, intake and a header would be a waste of money. exhaust is a good place to start, maybe a cam, some cam gears.
if your going NA, intake and a header would be a good bet.

if you plan on going turbo later, don't spend any money now and save it for when you do it.
otherwise intake exhaust is a good start.

I concur. Sit down and plan your route to your performance goals.

Like they said, if you do plan on going turbo, then some mod's that you would consider buying now (i.e. intake, header), would not be required for the turbo install. However, you could just sell them when the time comes.

If your on a budget and your not certain when you would have some serious cash to do a full turbo install, then I would suggest your basis bolt-on mods such as intake, header, cat, exhaust, pulleys, and a vafc or safc. You might want to consider suspension upgrades as well.

yes intake and exhaust is good for rite now if you doing a turbo to your car

Shady_Pro
just all depends howmuch you love your car....turbo is alotta time and pateince...if your just in it for some easy fun then just strap on a header intake exaust and some nitrous :dunno:

i agree with shady...what percentage of people who say they plan on going turbo ever do...be realistic here. chances are you wont be going turbo you will do the modding that most other people do including the bolt ons and maybe a few mods beyond that. start with the basic I/H/E setup. for 1000 you can get a cheap exhaust and a decent intake or you can get just a good exhaust probly not including install

I say start off with some suspension upgrades, shocks/springs....stiffen up the beast. If you want power, then I'd suggest getting a engine management system ie. hondata or uberdata. That I think is the best bang for your buck and it will be a powerful tool down the road if you wanna upgrade to FI

Shady_Pro
you lucky fuckers with hondadata i dont think i can use that stuff unless i was to nigger rig the shit..how much of a diff are you gonna notice with a safc...just powerband?:dunno:

First start with a cold air intake, header, then exhaust. Then move on to safc or ecu upgrade then cams if you want more.
That's the route i'd take to make it faster when going NA.

Personally I prefer to do up the handling first. New springs, maybe shocks or coilovers, bigger rear sway. I'm glad I did suspension first on my rsx, springs alone made a huge difference in how the car drives.

safc doesnt give you a shit load of power it just helps your car utilize its mods...getting an SAFC early is retarded...youll find yourself on the dyno EVERYtime you add another mod to retune..that gets expensive.. if you have money and you KNOW you can invest in your car then worry about going turbo..if u got 1000 cash it aint getting you no where really.. like i said be realistic...and hondata is no good for you until you do serious tuning..

You'll probably see more gains with FMU then with I/H/E bolt ons...remmber, OBDII will overcome those gains as time progresses.....you can run 160 hp / 125 tq (probably more) with some tuning, show me an intake, header or a exhaust that can give you those gains......and if you say Mugen/SMSP then your about 4g's into the pot.....

I wouldn't buy an VAFC/SAFC for FI, just good for bolt on's...not bad IMO with a vtec car.....

^oh yeah, forgot to mention, FMU will smooth out your power band considerably, although the hp/tq gains maybe be small relatively, you'll have more consitant power throughout the band.....

92_WhItE_H23
you will see a bigger gain yes..im just stating teh fact he has 1000 to spend...and maintaining a SAFC would cost more then that in the long run..get the safc after he has completed the tuning he thinks is sufficient for a long time... saves him alot of money on tuning... however if he IS serious and plans on going all out (which most ppl who start with only 1k are not) then by all means get the safc and buy the parts later and just pay out ur ass for tuning

92_WhItE_H23
i said tuning too much... get the safc after he has applied the mods he wants and it will save him money in tuning the safc in the long run...hopefully that made it more clear

But what about the OBDII, that will null the mods in a couple of weeks.....I mean uberdata is about $400 plus tuning, a VAFC is about the same, more if you get the plug and play harness plus tuning.....

An CAI will run you around $300, and a full exhaust system $700 and a header for $400....

92_WhItE_H23
according to any of the builders i have talked to OBDII makes no difference.. Im just being more practical is all. i doubt he has any real ambitions to go all out.. anyone can slap on a piggy back system the fun is in the feeling like a tuner for most ppl and the bolt ons are more fun i think

Travis
If I had the money, time and knowledge I would go all out but I'm limited in the fact that I'm going to be going back to school soon. Right now I just want to get a little more zip. Going by what people said I'll probably get an exhaust, header, and some springs to start and do more after I'm finished with school. thanks
