My turbocharged car.... - Click HERE for Original Thread

chickendreamer
SUre it's a mustang, not an import but i'm expecting 500rwhp / 550rwtq on a mustang dyno. Aiming for low 11's in the 1/4mile - fingers crosses. I should have the car completed by the end of march, still need to put the new transmission, torque arm, panhard, and lower control arms in.

Lets hope this pic links up...

sounds like a promising car :)

Good stuff man! People seem to be incorrectly assuming that 780tuners is just for imports and sport compacts, this is not so.

Can't wait to see your car at the track!

I wish I could attach pics to here but I can't. :(

Hey, man. Use Photobucket. Welcome to this side of Edmonton. :P

*edit*
Here you go. :) The more domestics over here, the better. Try and get some sort of ballance going on.

We should consider renaming the site. I've never liked the 780tuners moniker anyway. Maybe something a little more friendly to all ages and with less of an import connotation.

You got the turbo kit in? wow..... see what i miss for not checking wpcc for a while.

This whole site is based around inports and the sport compact sceen. I dont think there is a need to change anything. But nice mustang. What size turbo you running how many psi?

No-Pistons
sounds like a great car cant wait to race you, you'll kick my ass but give me sometime :D

Well, I don't know about you, but that sounds like good reason TO change. Inclusive is always better than Exclusive.

Thanks, it's a Holset T-60 modified by HP Performance which should be equivalent to a standard T-64. I should be running around 8-12#'s of boost. I am aiming for 500rwhp as a said, so however much boost it takes to generate that, that is how much boost I will give it. I will however draw the line at 12#'s of boost since my compression ratio is around 9.5:1.

Insomniac
5spd or auto?

Welcome to the site!
Though the user population is primarily imports & sport compacts, 780Tuners is welcome to ALL auto enthusiasts :)

And people who are speaking of changing the website name, please take your discussion to the appropriate forum and in a new thread.

5spd, got a Tremek TK600, which is rated up to 600fttq. The car will see the drag strip a lot but i'm not a hard core drag racer, so I like to bang the gearbox around.. it's fun! :)

Thanks, for the invite. I like to get involved with the local scene. :)

Reminds me of when I dynoed Jim Bells car.

stroked 351 with a T-109, air to water, 4" boost pipes and 6 inch exhaust!!

1175 hp isnt bad for 18 psi!!

he came about 4 times last year and I pretty much had to buy new straps after he left each time. Only car I had to use 6 hold downs for. Lurched on the dyno about 6 inches up and 8 inches forward during his pulls.

Crazy.

But your car is well on the way to that...very nice....I can see you making your numbers you want...that turbo might be on the edge though.

ChromeDragon
For some reason whenever I see Holset I think truck turbos. I was thinking you were saying you had an HX-60, which would be a HUUUUGE turbo for a gas application. I've been contemplating an HX-35 for my car.

Mustangs kick ass , Im on 3 year wait for mine waiting for a brand new mach1 so till then Im dreaming. Sweet stang man cant wait to see it spank at the track.

chickendreamer
Thanks guys :blue:

i'm not a huge domestic car fan, (even though i own a Merkur.. aka Ford).. but a turbo in a mustang.. damn. nice :D

thats basically what my XR4Ti is.. a turbo charged SVO mustang (2.3 litre 4 banger).

except yours would destory mine.. heheheh.

oldraven
Close. It's more like a European Escort with an SVO powertrain. (Actually, does the Merkur have the Borg Warner T5?) :P Of course, the SVO's were intercooled too. Even so, I'd be willing to wager the XR4Ti was quicker than the SVO, due to its' size.

beatshack
actually the chassis is an SVO mustang (fox) chassis... so its not really an escort at all. :)

stock they came with either the C3 auto tranny, or the T-9.. almost everyone i know that owns one of these cars has done the T-5 swap, as it can handle alot more power than the T-9. Some people use adapter plates so they can stick with the half-shaft, and other have switched over to the mustang one-piece shaft.

oldraven
Consider me corrected. I never knew it was a Fox chasis, that's why I assumed it was a lighter car. Since they resemble the RWD Escorts in Europe and Australia, I just thought they shoe horned the 2.3T in there.. Man, they just look so much smaller than the Mustangs.

beatshack
yeah.. they aren't really that light... 2900 lbs! They are not all that small either, you should see one up close (probably slightly shorter than your turbocoupe). I am planning on gutting mine soon, I hope to lose 200 lbs.. she's goin on a diet :D

and for the record.. an escort cosworth is pretty much my dream car :)

i saw a used one for sale in Vancouver for $40,000

oldraven
Yeah, well, an 88 TC weighs around 3400 lbs, and Mustangs aren't much less. Plus, T-birds have a bit of a stretched chassis, and the nose/tail is a good foot longer than a stang. I'd say you've got the advantage there.
