Crossed Drilled & Slotted....FLYWHEELS???? - Click HERE for Original Thread

REFLUX
I can't imagine the purpose of doing this....

BLING BLING!

ChromeDragon
What the shit? What well functioning clutch develops enough heat to require that? Unless it's slipping in the first place that is just useless.

snugs
cuz its mad phat tyte yo.... :dunno:

Welcome to the next generation of rice. Useless powertrain modification. Maybe next we'll see water cooled fuel tanks.

less weight:dunno:

It's probably for cooling purposes... :dunno: Why are brake rotors slotted/drilled? For cooling. Who knows.

The password is JDM that has to be mad tyte overnight parts from japan then y0.

slap some stickers on it and you will gain HP as well , You guys are just not thinkin properly , THey are speed HOLES why turbo when you have those imo

so sad some of the ideas that get p[assed through

ChromeDragon
I'm going to drill some speed holes in my turbo!

I take it none of you drive a 3000+lb car with high horsepower:blink: If I showed you what my clutches look like after 10 passes you wouldn't even believe me. And this is with it not slipping just launches and street driving. I'm not saying this idea well work, but it just might!

Having seen a few flywheels on the domestic side.......

That flywheel is a joke.

Its obviously a bandaid on a bigger problem.....or just bling as stated.

So sloted rotors are as you said BLING??? The same principles of heat, and gases would aplly to a clutch as they do to a cars brakes. Most companies don't market RICE towards performance parts that no one well ever see. Like I stated before I don't know if this would help or hinder, but look at almost every race team does use sloted rotors on there brakes. Also anyone on here that says it is just RICE, back these claims up. I would like to see someone prove this wouldn't work instead of just assuming it won't.

i agree ive seen flywheels that have been drilled out for less weight.

Every day..... :dunno:

What kind of clutch are you running so that its totally blown after just 10 passes?

Cant win on this one snugs....I took the thing apart and it is SHOT. Its a centreforce stage V if I remember correctly....there was more purple and blue on it then a 2 dollar whore...on top of that the recessed areas where the allen head bolts are to hold everything together are pretty much gone due to the fact that metal has closed them over.

And I dont think you drive a 600whp AWD car everyday.

Time for a carbon carbon twin disc.

If we apply the same principles found in brake system as you suggested then we can see how this design will fail.

1. Slotted/Drilled rotors wear pads at 2-5 times faster rate. Something you don't want on a clutch.

2. Porsche 996's use slotted/cast(holes) on there cars to ensure the clamping surfaces stay clean. Heat dissipation is arguably not there intention but is eluded to by many performance shops.

3. Weight reduction by casting holes and slotting a flywheel on the clamping surface is not the best way to reduce weight. If it is the intention it is a poor way of doing it.

4. Reducing the clamping surface is the last thing you want to do. Unless you plan on building "riding your clutch" into your high horsepower setup.

5. Companies are constantly trying to sell rice that we don't see........ Anything from electric superchargers, tornados, octane additives ........etc. The assumption that a performance shop makes a product then it must work....... uhmmm sadly does not apply.

Its an interesting design but engineering wise it does not meet some basic mechanical principles.

.......and for examples...a carbon/carbon clutch should work nicely. If it can hold a 900 hp F1 car together in an endurance run it should have no problem holding a few 1/4 mile runs. ...... or we can wait for some ceramic composite clutches to emerge. The carrera Gt uses a ~6" diameter disc to hold its horsepower in check. The answer lies in the materials used not in slotting/drilling this and that.........

Ouch, sounds toasty. Definitely time for an upgrade.

AWD launches with that much boost =
