Does anyone know anything about the Kuhmo ASX's? Have any of you used them, or know someone that does? how are they on high power rear wheel drive cars?
Heres what I know, so I'm just looking for some personal, advise/opinions:

If you know of some that are really good, and are not only grippy, but last a while, then please let me know. I also want something approved for light snow.---> "Ultra High Performance All Season" |

Um...it reads "All Season"
All Season = no grip
If you want sticky tires (especially for a SR20DET):
Kumho MX
Falken Azenis Sports
Potenza S03 |

These are supposed to be very sticky and are called Ultra High Performance all season's. Yeah, I know, it still says "all season". But up here in Grande Prairie, even when it's summer, we still can get an inch of snow! So I just want to be on the safe side. I had some Cooper Cobra ZHP01's on my last car, and they gripped good in the summer, but the slightest bit of snow, or even really cold pavement, and they were like riding on bald tires, it was horrible.
Thanks for the opinions on the other tires though. I'll have to look into them some more. All I know is they are super sticky, but super expensive too. Do they have a good tread wear rating, and do they last awhile? |

I am also really curious if anyone has any experience with rims and tires on S13 silvia's?
I belive mine will have 17" rims, and I would really like to mount something other than the recomended 235/45/R17
I would really like something a little wider.
I'm not sure where to seek this info, as the car was obviously never sold here.
What other rim/tire sizes fit really good on this car?
What was the stock sizing?
Does anyone know a good site to do fitment/sizing comparisons? |

| Check for different sizes at a tire retailer they should know if your wheels can be wider taller. |

Tire wear/usage shouldn't differ too much from other FR cars.
As for treadwear, it depends on how many KM you want out of them & what type of driving you do.
Falkens are usually replaced once a season if you autocross/roadrace/drive really hard on the streets regularly.
Kumho MX should have similar wear ratings.
Same goes for S03s, might be even less with the S03s, not sure.
I've put on ~7-8000km on my Falken Azenis, 5 days @ Race City, 1 day @ an autocross and the rest daily driven, I still have tonnes of tread left.
Ultra High Performance All Season = less sticky than High Performance Tires
Even if you do get snow in the summer...would you be driving your Silvia around on all seasons that won't grip well in the snow with the amount of HP you're laying down???
Also, how wide are the 17" rims? Each tire has specific wheel widths that they can fit on. 235, I'm guessing they're 8 or 9" wide? You can prbly fit 255 on 9", possibly 275.
Most importantly is that you have to figure out what you're going to be doing with your car and what you want out of it.
If you want something that's low maintenance, no worries & hassles, don't mind sacrificing grip for longevity...yeah go for all seasons.
But if you want grip AND longevity...you're gonna have to make a sacrifice, it's either or. Not both. |

anytime :)
Check out the archives, search for "Falken" or "Azenis"...I'm pretty sure I put up a link to a "Falken Azenis Treadwear Study"
has loads of good info on the tires |
