Say you were driving a full out race car down the high way and pass by a cop.
Now my first guess if i stop is bye bye car. I amagen it would get impounded.
If you ran, made it home and got in the garage but still got cought via the chopper what would happen?
little jail time and some fines or Big jail time and loss of car? |

well lets play count the fellony's
You've got resisting arrest, for one thats a big one
You're gonna be destroying the speedlimit.
Endangering the public
Plus all the traffic laws you'll break getting home (cause i imagine you don't live ON the highway)
You can be DAMNED sure they will take the car after that. And the other stuff, the first one especially is gonna have jail time attached to it.
I dunno :dunno: sounds like fun though! |

| If they completely lose sight of your car during the pursuit and they never got the plate number, a good lawyer should be able to get you off. |

If it were me...
1. Obstruction of a Police Officer (criminal charge)
2. Dangerous Operation of a M.V. (criminal charge)
3. Criminal Fleeing (criminal, obviously)
4. Fail to Stop for a Police Officer
5. Speeding (if you out ran me, then, estimated 51 km'h over, mandatory court, vehicle seizure ect.)
6. There are would be about 100 offences that I would give you tickets for in relation to driving an off-highway vehicle on the road and vehicle equipment regulation tickets.
Now, on top of this, if you eventually stopped, or were stopped by me in some way, It would be treated as a high-risk vehicle stop. Which is something you don't want.
All in all, it would not be worth it. Even if you got off of criminal charges, which would be pretty unlikely, you wouldn't be driving for a long time. |

if you losse them and they dont get your plate then like TrevorK said you would probly get off if you pull over or slowdown to the speed limit after geting out of there site...
but them geting the plate is probly going to happen unless you start to run even befor they get near 6 or so car lenghts cause then even if the cop might not see the plate they would probly go to the in car tape and process it to get a plate |

If its a race car, a good description would probably suffice.
Remember, a police witness holds a LOT of weight, much more than if a citizen were to see the vehice. |

| a good lawyer would rip apart the cop saying "he drives a car that looks like th e one that got away from me" |

It would be pretty damn tough to have serious charges like that just thrown out. If the officer wasn't 100% sure, he wouldn't charge.
Going to court to get thrashed by a defence lawyer is weaksauce. If I had any inkling (sp?) that it might be the wrong car, I would be VERY hesitant to lay serious charges. The Crown and the defence lawyers know that as well. |

Common misconception. Justice is blind. Everyone is equal under the eyes of the court. |

I wasn't aware that all police cruisers had the cameras in them nowadays.. Does anyone know? :dunno:  |

| Every defendant is equal under the law, but witnesses are not. There are many things that speak for an officer's credibility, that a normal citizen does not have. |

BAHAHAHAHA...high risk take down. So true.
My good friend is an RCMP officer in St. Albert. Just a few weeks ago actually, he saw a vehicle run a stop sign, so he went to go pull it over. The driver chose not to stop. Kept driving, and meanwhile he's radioing for backup. Air-1 came in from Edmonton as backup, and the PSD (police service dog) in St. Albert was also dsipatched along with 2 other cruisers. The driver pulls up in their driveway (in a pretty upscale part of town), and gets out and starts walking towards the officer who originally engaged in the pursuit. Take note that at this point he notices that she's probably about 80 years old. Air-1 is in the air with the spotlight shining on her, and the dog handler is out prepared for whatever along with 3 other officers, right? So he keeps yelling at her to get into her vehicle...she keeps yelling back, "what the hell are you doing trying to pull me over?! why don't you go catch some real criminals! i'm not a criminal!!" needless to say, her son comes out of the house and takes control of the situation...she's the owner of the car, the driver, no criminal record, and what would have been a regular traffic stop, and likely a warning (knowing this officer) turned into a blown out of proportion pursuit with aerial support, a doghandler, and numerous officers.
When my friend told me this story the next day after it happened, I couldn't stop laughing.

i sure hope so...that is one of the founding principles of our justice system, besides the obvious being innocent till proven guilty. |
