So what's up with these direct energy nat. gas contracts?
With the price being so much higher initially, is there really any incentive to sign up? |

| It is all about you vs them in the ability to predict prices. I have a buddy whose job at this time at Direct Energy is forecasting so they can buy futures contracts. They do the same thing with thier suppliers. |

i signed up with them 2 weeks ago and i think it'll be worth it in the long run. it might not make a difference right now but 2 or 3 years right now when the gas prices are sky high i'll be on the safe side.
o yeah the rate that i got mine is not available anymore so i guess the forecast means the prices are going up.
i was listening to the radio today and they said that gas prices will go up which means petro products and heating cost as well. |

| My dad was extremely pissed off with them after the first too bills which were sky high but the third one compensated for both of them. After the second bill he wanted to terminate the contract but he couldn't cuz in nice small print on the back it states that you are stuck with them for five years. |

What he said, the fine print on those contracts may bite you in the ass. It's one thing to buy in as a hedge against rising prices, it would be kind of like going for a longer term mortgage at a higher rate than a short term so you could have the "safe" feeling. The thing that I didn't buy into was being locked into that contract for 5 years with no escape. That meant that even if you sold the house and moved you still owed them money.
I turned it down a few years ago and came out hundreds of dollars ahead of what they had the rate set at. Don't forget that Ralph kicks in his rebate here in Alberta when the natural gas stays above a set average. |
