tranny ? - Click HERE for Original Thread

v8killah
hey just wondering if a gsr tranny could withstand a fullrace stage1 turbo setup for or would i need to upgrade the tranny aswell?

Nightstalker
well why don't you do a couple more races and then just buy the full race tranny and a stage 4 or 5 turbo..

TURBOS SETUPS DO NOT HAVE STAGES IN REAL LIFE.

thankyou, come again..

now that I am done verbally abusing you.. what do you mean by stage 1 turbo. most people use stock transmissions in cars with well over 300hp. How much power do you plan to make..

v8killah
i meant stage 1 Turbo kit... www.full-race.com

REFLUX
I've seen Integras putting down 300+whp and they make no mention of transmission upgrades to make them more hardy
maybe a change in the final drive but never read of any special "transmission toughening"

Ron@Revolution
I would be more worried about axles at those power levels!

notaturbotalon
Your transmission will handle more than your engine unless you start reving it up to 9K RPM. I didn't see anything aboout pistons or such with their turbo kits, so your tranny should work fine.

This is true, its more the torque you have to worry about with axels but one you add a turbo honda's actually get some of that so they tend to snap.

Maybe if you are running slicks or dropping the clutch at high rpms. I would think your street tires would be the fuse and they would break traction with the pavement long before you snap through some solid steel. Unless you are rollin on dubs.

well i might go for a stage 2 kit... hopefully make around 400-450 whp with some good tuning...

be the fastest civic in ab

very much doubt that.

my buddies cousin had 515 FWHP last year, and is gunna have more this year.

He is the fastest in Alberta of Imports as of 2004.

DomesticDrifter
remeber you can have 700hp and lose to a 450hp car if you can't put the power to the ground

There was a reg EG hatch from calgary that ran a low 11 and it blew up 3/4 of the way down the track at the scc last year.. I don't think you will be that fast.. Its a B20/vtec turbo car.

Plus both Midtown and Prodrag run civics.. so.. ya its a nice dream you have there. Midtown's cars are all street driven to.

v8killah
yah it is a nice dream... its def a project over the next year.

but i got lots saved up and planning on getting the block sleeved, lower the compression don't know how low tho and a few more goodies.

don't know what kind of managment yet tho... but i figure i can get into the 11's

Nightstalker
How much experiance do you have with building cars ?

Kris
If you are going for lower compression I recomend 9:1, that's what I will be running in my built engine. If anyone tells you that is to high for a street driven turbo car slap them in the face.

Nightstalker
I am also doing 9.1:1 in my car.
